The Life You've Always Wanted: Spiritual Discipline for Ordinary People (Unabridged)

OPAL

Opal is a beautiful translucent stone varying in colours from whites, milky whites, greys and even to the rarer blacks. Many brilliant colours are found flashing and glowing within this stone. Iridescent reds, greens, blues and yellows. Fire Opal, predominately red/orange in colour, is associated with energy. Opal triplex consists of a thin layer of high grade Opal set between Clear Quartz on the top and a slice of a darker stone beneath such as Obsidian or Agate. This heightens the depth of colours and slightly alters the vibrations. Another stone that gives off an irridescent effect is Opaline Agate, which is an extremely beautiful gemstone ands has an almost hypnotic quality about it. Opal is found in Cornwall along with Turquoise but is generally more chalky and of a poorer quality than other countries such as Australia and America. None-the-less it is well sought after by collectors and healers. Opal is made from silicon, oxygen and water and is liable to shrink or expand. This may be the cause of it occasionally being lost from jewellery settings, or having cracked or aged. Perhaps one reason why it has been deemed unlucky in the past.

Opal's vibrations are those that can heighten emotions. For this reason if a person is feeling unhappy it is desirable not to wear it, but if in a joyful mood, it is an excellent companion. Opal is often called the Stone of Conscience. A reminder to the inner person if truth and justice is not being adhered to. At first gently working on the conscience and then by being just plainly uncomfortable. If a person is attracted to or wears Opal with ease and confidence it would indicate a good upright trustworthy character. I have known cases when people given this stone as a pendant have torn it from their throats and hidden it, thus giving the game away. I have been told also of it being sown into garments of husbands likely to stray, giving them a very edgy time! A good vibration, however, is that it sharpens inner eye sight and it alerts one to what is actually happening around. Things that may otherwise remain unnoticed or deliberately avoided.

Opal has the connotation of being unlucky in the past but this is definitely not so of all Opal. These were individual stones that held bad vibrations that effected wearers such as one hears of in legends. It is always a good idea to cleanse and wash jewellery every so often and particularly so if after an illness, second hand or having been used as a healing stone. White Opal is associated with Justice. If there is a desperate need to right a wrong that is being perpetuated against oneself then an Opal worn or held with an invocation to a spirit guardian, angel or god is a way to find reassuring help. White Opal, if attending a Court case, is recommended if the wearer is truly in the right. Opal has been described as the stone of the Righteous, a stone of hope and vision. It's vibrations seem to react against greed and negativity in general. Opal is, like many gemstones, worn to heighten awareness. It aids psychic gifts and is associated with visualisation, dreaming, inspired thoughts and with birth, being another feminine stone. Many healers feel that it has a connection with the lungs and the eyes. In cases of bodily healing hold it against areas for several minutes daily. It is said to help the body assimilate protein, but always remember to cleanse after a healing session.

Opal's spiritual vibrations light up a path for truth and justice, but maybe it's strict and sincere qualities may feel uncomfortable for those who deviate from the straight and narrow. To others Opal can become a true and trustworthy friend, a guide in helping to achieve a worthwhile path in life. Opal is a reminder of what is acceptable to one's conscience, but above all it is about fairness and justice. A stone of good intentions and creative work.
