| Editorial Reviews:
From Amazon.co.uk After the massive success of Pablo Honey--or, more specifically, the single "Creep"--had made them a household name, most had written Radiohead off as one-hit wonders. That they could return with an album as awesome and monumental as The Bends, therefore, must have been particularly unexpected. Not that Pablo Honey is a bad album, but rather, when compared to the epic grandeur of The Bends, it's obvious that the five Oxford-based boys had matured immensely since the release of their debut. "High And Dry", "Just", "Street Spirit", "Fake Plastic Trees": nary a pop song among them, yet it's testament to their greatness that they all were hit singles. And really, it's easy to see why: Thom Yorke's falsetto crying over a wall of acoustic and electric guitars, as lyrics and music blend to create a masterpiece of melancholy beauty. The Bends is one of the most essential albums of the 1990s, and a spectacular indicator of further greatness to come. --Robert Burrow
Onirique a souhait et raffine, The Bends annonce O.K. Computer et le genial "Paranoid Android". --Philippe Robert

RadioHead's MASTERPIECE ALBUM - AND ONE OF THE BEST ROCK ALBUMS EVER! October 25, 2007 NeuroSplicer (Freeside, in Orbit) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Over the past 3 generations, music industry executives (most with no or little musical education) have reduced the quality of popular music to the lowest common denominator. Vapid lyrics, forgettable tunes, total absence of original music composition and absolutely no innovation. The creativity well is so dry that remakes have become the norm, not the once-in-a-while. Yet, by controlling most of the radio air-play, music CDs still get sold by the millions. The patient is supposed to be dead, his electroencephalogram flat-lined, when unpredictable spikes such as this one occur. THE BENDS is one of the rare exceptions of a great group putting out a MONUMENTAL album. If I had a nickel every time I heard that OK COMPUTER is a better album...I have them both and let me tell you: whereas I do take out and listen to OK COMPUTER once in a while, THE BENDS never comes out of the 18CD-charger of my car. This Album has a beginning, a middle and a finish. No, I cannot distinguish any of the pieces above the rest - they are all gems and part of a ever-shifting musical picture. The level of this Album's artistry is simply unsurpassed - even by RADIOHEAD themselves. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
God rest your soul... August 3, 2006 Benny B. (Montreal,QC Canada) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
Probably one of the top albums of all time.Melodic, powerful and Thom Yorke at his best. First time I heard this I fell off my chair.I could't stop listening to the album.Fake Plastic Tree,Street Spirit (fade out),Just...Basically,the whole album is wonderful. My favorite is Sulk...what a song! Stuck on a desert island...The Bends is my choice.Personnaly the best album I have in my collection!!!
The Bends will give you the bends. It's horrible. AVOID!! July 22, 2006 Vader 0 out of 14 found this review helpful
I remember the first time that I heard Radiohead's Just- I thought to myself- what is this? Radiohead is one of the worst groups out there. I would recommend that you avoid this album. Avoid the bends and if you want modern rock at its best- try the Red Hot Chili Peppers!!
So good that it's more about picking faults... May 23, 2006 Charles McLaughlin (Hong Kong) Quite simply, one of the best albums in the last 3 or 4 decades.Beautifully written, performed and produced. Near unique.. This review is fairly redundant in that almost everyone who cares already knows how good this is. What makes it special is the knowledge that all subsequent output went way downhill. This was the high water mark for this band in my opinion. Quite brilliant. Doesn't stop me hearing the fingers sliding on the opening chord changes in "Nice Dream" and being annoyed by it. But then it's probably taken me ten years of regular listening to be really aware of it...and it may be deliberate! More longevity than anything you'll probably ever listen to...
From This Music Critic April 29, 2006 The Bends is possibly one of the most phenominal albums I've ever listened to. Positively insane... songs like Street Spirit (Fade Out) will take you to those faraway corners of your mind. Radiohead's unique sound is showcased beautifully in this record. If you're looking for a new sound, this is it. And just remember. Baby's got the bends.
