    Editorial Reviews:

    From Amazon.com
Things have gone ridiculously well for Coldplay in the three years since 2002's A Rush of Blood To The Head. The group's global album sales have soared past the 10-million mark, putting it in the same stratosphere as U2 and the Dave Matthews Band. People have offered up their bank accounts, cars and even bodies for tickets to its shows. And, in a nice twist, front man Chris Martin married Gwyneth Paltrow, setting the tabloid world aflame. Funny thing, then, that the British quartet's much-anticipated third album, X&Y, is all about keeping its feet on the ground. In the powerful opener "Square One," the singer insists people are fundamentally the same no matter their stature. "You just want/ Somebody listening to what you say," he sings. On "Fix You," Martin grapples with imperfection and missed opportunity: "When you love someone but it goes to waste/ Could it be worse?" Meanwhile, the vibrant first single, "Speed of Sound," is all about reconnecting with the spirit and soul in the face of the paparazzo's flashbulbs. Musically, the band has never sounded more adventurous, referencing everyone from Kraftwerk ("Talk") to the Pogues ("Swallowed In The Sea"), all the while sweeping aside those Radiohead-lite comparisons to embrace a massive, moving sound that makes simplicity seem sublime. --Aidin Vaziri

5 out of 5 stars Space transportation   February 6, 2007

The first time I listened to their songs, in my basement, I found this CD interessing. I put all the songs on my mp3, and as I was sitting in a bus, I realized that is was a space transportation music. Well, for me... I relax, I forget my problems and I just let myself listen to this magnificient music. 'Speed Of Sound' and 'Talk' did the best effect that I was talking about , anf 'Fix You' is another great composition. The lyrics are beautiful too. I realize that the whole CD was full of great songs like this, reminding U2 younger. Good music for teens and adults at the same time. A great mix, a perfect CD. I'll be looking forward on Coldplay...

5 out of 5 stars A Truly Great Band Can Live Up to the Hype   September 1, 2006
    SRM (Toronto)
This is one of the few instances where a critically and publically acclaimed band delivered, when the bar had been set impossibly high.

I thought their first two albums were quite good but spotty in places. This album is, song-for-song, an exceptional piece of work. Each song can stand on its own yet flows perfectly and effortlessly with the next.

No one would have been surprised if Coldplay tripped-up on the intense scrutiny and hype that preceded this record (it seems that there are some reviewers who are still trying to knock them down a peg). However, in my opinion, they triumphed.

Coldplay has taken the mantle from U2 as the best middle-of the-road band that everyone on earth has heard of.

    Not an easy accomplishment...

    2 out of 5 stars A Letdown!   April 20, 2006

I have to say first that I found this CD no where in the league of their first 2 CD's which I would give 10 stars to Parachutes and A Rush of Blood to the Head. This CD was a disappointment to me. I was hoping for some ballad type songs that Chris Martin's voice is so amazing...soft, thoughtful and thought provoking intimate songs like those that had been on the earlier 2 CD's.

Also this CD is copyright protected so you can't put it onto your MP3 players....and I would normally say that sucks because I like to buy CD"s not steal the music.....however with this CD...there really aren't many tunes I'd want to put onto my MP3 player that's how much of a disappointment this CD was to me.

Diehard young Coldplay fans will probably see my review differently....there's no doubt the lads have their fan base...but critically speaking I think most objective people can agree this CD doesn't hit the mark of their other 2 CD's.

5 out of 5 stars No weak tracks.   March 19, 2006
In this day and age where most CD's have a few good tracks and the rest is filler, this CD is uniformly good. I like all tracks on the CD and find that I still play it often even though I have owned it for over 8 months. I liked the CD enough to fork out a bunch of money and saw Coldplay at the Palace. Coldplay put on a good show.
