From Amazon.co.uk This is the perfect way to hear Madonna: no album filler, just one hit after another. As a singles artist, she works wonders: quick, danceable tunes that are occasionally "controversial" but never set out to change the world (and don't). The Immaculate Collection begins with her earliest work ("Holiday", "Borderline") and matures from there ("Papa Don't Preach", "Like A Prayer"), ending in 1990. The highlight is the inclusion of "Justify My Love", a track recorded specifically for this compilation. One caveat: since Madonna is a true video artist, it'd be even nicer to "see" these songs. --Rob O'Connor
Amazon.com essential recording The naughtily titled Immaculate Collection culls 15 of Madonna's Top 10 singles from 1984 to mid-'90, plus 2 new ones that continued the run (the dirty, trunk-bumping funk of "Justify My Love"--a Lenny Kravitz production that justifies his entire career--and the danceable desperation of "Rescue Me"). Rooted in disco and classic AM pop from girl groups and ABBA to Strawberry Alarm Clock, Madonna made savvy, touching music throughout her first golden era. These tracks retain their sonic and historical significance while, like "She Loves You" or "Rocket Man," still brightening any space they're being played in. Far more than just a wise, irreverent image-maker--like the Beatles or Elton, come to think of it--Madonna during these years was the gift that kept on giving, forever fresh, sexy, hooky, and joyously sharp. --Rickey Wright
--Isabelle Chelley

Good compilation if you are not a hard core Madonna fan June 29, 2008 Martine (Montreal) I am a true Madonna fan & I enjoyed this CD, the compilation is great. You should complete this CD collection with her other compilation CD to have a complete collection.
A classic collection November 12, 2006 Brian loves music (Ottawa, ON Canada) This is one of the best greatest hits packages out there, and it is certainly better than her later compilation "GHV2". This album contains one hit after another, so the song list is exceptional. If I had to say anything negative about this collection (and I know I don't have to, but I do have one small objection), I would say that it is too bad that "Who's That Girl" was left off, as that is one of my favourite songs of hers (not to mention the fact that it was a #1 single). "Oh Father" is also sadly absent, but I know it is the song that ended her incredible string of consecutive top 10 hits. The fact that this song was not more successful is incomprehensible, as it is one of her best songs. In any event, this is an excellent compilation of Madonna's earlier hits and contains a version of "Express Yourself" that is better than the original album version. Heck, this is an awesome compilation of 1980's hits.

Madonna : The Mother of Re-Invention July 10, 2004 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
This record was the first Madonna album I bought , and I have been a fan ever since!! This woman has to be one of the most influential artists of the eighties , ninties , and the new millenium. She always re-invents herself , reflecting where she is in her life , what issue she wants to tackle , and what it is she wants to say. The album covers her first four studio albums : "Madonna" , "Like A Virgin" , "True Blue" , and "Like A Prayer". Songs she did for movie soundtracks are thrown in the mix also. Such as : "Vision Quest" , "Desperately Seeking Susan" , "At Close Range" , and "Dick Tracy". "Madonna" was the first album she recorded. It was released in 1983 and included the hits : "Holiday" , "Lucky Star" , and "Borderline". Madonna was a busy gal during this period. She filmed her first two films : "Vision Quest" and "Desperatley Seeking Susan". That meant two more hits were released : "Crazy For You" and "Into The Groove". "Like A Virgin" , her second album , included the hits : "Material Girl" and the title track. A year after the record was released (in 1984) , she went on tour. And met Sean Penn , they married that same year and that was what inspired her third studio album , "True Blue". In 1986 , songs like "Papa Don't Preach" and "Open Your Heart" shot straight to the top of the charts. Sadly , they divorced in 1989 and Madge wrote , recorded , and released her fourth studio album , "Like A Prayer". Her Blonde Ambition tour was launced a year later in 1990. Performing hits like : "Express Yourself" , "Cherish" , and "Vogue" , Madonna lit up the stage and released the legendary film that documented the backstage view of that concert : "Madonna : Truth or Dare?". In addition to all those triumphts , two more songs are included : "Justify My Love" and "Rescue Me". The video for "Justify" (which features Lenny Kravitz doing backround vocals) was banned from MTV & VH1 for its pictures of gay and lesbian couples , Mo kissing another woman , and her fine lover , model Tony Ward , getting down and dirty!! Don't pay attention to the negitive reviews who says that Madonna isn't cool anymore. She will always be interesting despite negitive critics , they're just jealous!!! Buy this amazing album now!
One Of My All - Time Favorite Albums July 4, 2004 Anthony Nasti (Staten island New York) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
By 1990, Madonna had scored an impressive string of hit singles that few artists have ever matched. By this time, she collected 25 of the 49 hit singles she has scored since 1983. And while it does leave some stuff out, it's a brilliant collection."The Immaculate Collection" contains many Madonna favorites, from "Like A Virgin" to "Material Girl" to "Like A Prayer". These songs, along with "Open Your Heart", "Cherish and "Express Yourself", are among the greatest songs in popular music. Anyone who deosn't like these songs does not have a good ear for good music. Also, there's a few not so recognized songs included here, like the beautiful ballads "Crazy For You" and "Live To Tell" as well as the eerie "Rescue Me" As I said earlier, the immaculate collection does leave some stuff out, and only one of these omitted songs failed to make the top 10. The songs not included here are: "Angel" (number 5) "Dress You Up" (number 5) "True Blue" (number 3) "Who's That Girl" (number 1, the most telling omission) "Causing A Commotion" (number 2) "Oh Father" (number 20, the song that broke her top 10 streak) "Keep It Together" (number 8) "Hanky Panky" (number 10) Still, what's here is an amazing legacy of music created in such short time by an artists who remains an icon of the 20th century and an influence on so many musicians.
