The world can't get enough of Madonna, and with CD/DVD sets like The Confessions Tour dropping regularly, it's little wonder why. As a thrower of fantasy dance parties, she is peerless. As a physical role model for the 40-ish women who grew up on her music, she rules. And as an arbiter of what's going to sound shockingly original in any given decade--well, duh. The Confessions Tour rounds up songs from way back--"Ray of Light" and "La Isla Bonita" make the DVD, and "Lucky Star" and "Like a Virgin" are on the CD as well as the DVD--but this concert, filmed in 2006 at London's Wembley Arena, aims its sturdiest spotlight on Confessions on a Dance Floor, Madge's 2005 disco disc. You could argue, then, that unless you're in it for the sheer DVD spectacle (and what a spectacle it is), there's no sense in owning this package. Only you wouldn't be right. Because as any on-the-ball Madonna fan knows, what she's doing musically is telling a story--you may already know the characters, but that doesn't mean she hasn't completely reworked the plot. To that end, "I Love New York" gets its rock on, "Let It Will Be" has a musical temper tantrum, and "Hung Up" goes for the drama queen award. You've heard these songs before, but you've never heard them quite like this, to borrow a bad informercial phrase. As twisted and hopped-up as they've become, they're all worth getting to know again. --Tammy La Gorce

I was almost front row at the confession tour in Montreal in 2006! That show is the best one I have seen in this lifetime. The dancers, setting, costumes & music arrangments are outstanding & sizzling! This DVD of the show really represents the vibe & representation very well! The CD is also AMAZING! Trust my word on this one... you want this CD in your car, in your house, in a bar... everywhere!!! You think the confession on a dance floor CD was good... Try this one... even better! Dance the night away!

I have to say, the woman knows how to put on a good show. At nearly 50 years of age, she looks fantastic, still dances pretty well & VERY energetically at that..and even though she may not own the world's greatest set of pipes she sounds damn good. (Don't get me wrong, I LOVE her...but let's face facts, her voice does have limitations) Having said that, this has got to be the best show she's done in a long time. That's a huge compliment when you look at previous tours that she's done which were all phenomenal in their scope, complexity of choreography & their wonderful story-like nature. (The Girlie Show, Blond Ambition & Re-Invention Tours come to mind) Madonna constantly challenges herself to do better than before, and always succeeds at it. Good on her & I hope she keeps doing this until she's at least 60! 'Nuff said!

Madonna's "Confessions Tour", the highest-grossing tour of 2006, was a triumphant return to form for pop music's reigning queen. Nearly a quarter of century after her first top 20 hit (the infectious "Holiday"), she still breaks all records and draws audiences as though she's the new flavor of the month.

This DVD-CD package is simply flawless. The DVD captures the London concert, unedited, uncensored, in all its glorious entertainment. The track listing strongly emphasizes the "Confessions on a Dancefloor" album (not surprisingly, since it's her best in ages), but longtime fans will be thrilled with the reworked arrangements of such classic Madonna singles as "Lucky star", "La isla bonita", "Like a virgin", "Music", "Live to tell" or "Erotica" (the latter sounding like a whole new song, and all the better for it). As opposed to the disappointing "I'm gonna tell you a secret" DVD, the entire concert is there, which is nice. There are few behind-the-scenes extras, which could have been longer, and a nice photo gallery. The audio and visual quality of this DVD is outstanding. This is pop extravaganza at its very best - big production, big stage, big effects - and a strong reminder of why people keep coming back to Madonna even after so long. Anyone who was there will want to have this souvenir of the tour, and anyone who WASN'T there needs to see what they've missed.

The audio CD includes 13 tracks, and wisely enough it includes mostly tracks whose arrangements differ from their original studio version, like the new version of "Erotica", "I love New York" (with an harder rock and roll edge) or "Let it will be" (turned into a stomping, rhythmic track). The sound quality is amazing and it's a nice companion to the DVD.
