    3 out of 5 stars Not exactly a review   October 28, 2008

I was just getting into the album when I switched to disc two, whereupon I discovered a female singer from what sounded like the 1950's. Apparently, although the art on the disc is for Nostradamus, the content is something entirely different. So rather than a review, this is a warning to those who might be giving this as a gift for Christmas - save the packing slip, you might need it.
Amazon has always been exceptional when it comes to defective merchandise, so I don't expect that I, or anyone else, will have a problem with the return.

THIS IS A MASTERPIECE. I CAN NOT GET IT OUT OF MY HEAD. THAT IS WHAT A GOOD METAL BAND DOES. THAT IS WHAT PRIEST DOES OVER AND OVER DECADE AFTER DECADE ALBUM AFTER ALBUM. THIS IS A 10.5 FOR ME AND I OWN EVERY TITLE OF THEIR MUSIC. THANKS GUYS AND WE WILL SEE YOU ON THE HIGHWAY!!!!

    Nostradamus (Super Deluxe Boxset)

The two previous reviews have it right. As an older fan who has followed Judas Priest from the early 80's, this album is a welcome relief from the dirth of power chord only nu metal and shock rock which requires little or no musical virtuosity. Priest have proven themselves over the years and a concept is nothing new to older Rock fans and for a major band to produce one today is risky. For the skeptical, please listen to this album in it's entirety. It's not the type of album that is a all catchy hooks and chorus. The music will diversify with each listen. Remember, these guys are the pros and they have deliver the goods. For the fans that want straight ahead power chords and metal riffs this album has that and more as this record leans toward the heavy Metal's classical influence. For those that wanted another Painkiller or Screaming for Vengeance this ain't it. However, some of the elements are there. I'm sorry you missed the 80's.
As a fan of both Lord of the Rings and Gladiator, (movies and soundtracks) Nostradamus fits perfectly. It has adventure and intensity. I'd also like to see this album played live in full as I'm sure many older fans have seen Priest play their classics a few time over by this time. How many oldies tours do we have to see from the great acts? Bring on the new material and let's have it right between the eyes!

    5 out of 5 stars A monumental pasterpiece!   July 11, 2008

Judas Priest is one of the most talented heavy metal bands. They started almost 40 years ago with a mixture of hard rock and progressive rock, then turned to heavy metal, speed metal, whatever they call it. They are so diverse, it is difficult to define their style. None of their albums look alike, each and every one of them is different. They always try new things, and, besides Turbo, never failed. But with Nostradamus they have outdone themselves. Nostradamus is metal opera, and at the same time, vintage Priest. I don't think Rob Halford has ever been able to show the whole beauty and range of his voice. Deep Purple's Don Airey is probably the best keyboardist one could think of to invite for such an ambitious project. Lost Love and New beginning are the two songs I would remove from the song list, but the rest is so great! A stunning album, a masterpiece from one of the best bands ever!

5 out of 5 stars Amazing -but not for every metal fan.   June 29, 2008

Every once a while comes along something memorable.
If you love music, whether it be Araya's scream, Nile's wall of sound, Chopin's touch or Beethoven's genius, you'll be left moved in complete adoration with this release. If however, you're still at the stage of only enjoying the speed and anger that metal provides so well, if different genres leave you cold and unimpressed, than wait some other year to get this. It is heavy in intent, in sound, but not with anger. It isn't Screaming for Vengeance; it's actually much deeper and much more ambitious. If anything, it is very classical; but any fan of classical and metal as well will tell you that the two genres have very much in common. Add to that that the entire thing is a minor key, you'll be wholly rewarded for your love of music.
