Le top du top, reuni sur un meme disque, resume la seconde moitie de la carriere des Fab Four, celle qui enchaine Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, Magical Mystery Tour, Yellow Submarine, Abbey Road et Let It Be. Par quelque bout que vous la preniez, cette double compilation s'avere exceptionnelle. Meme s'il n'y a pas d'archives inedites (ce n'est pas le but), tous les albums contribuent a rendre temoignage d'une oeuvre au-dela de tous les superlatifs : souvent copiee jamais egalee. Des heures de (re)decouvertes en perspective s'offrent a vous avec le repertoire d'un groupe qui, avec les Rolling Stones, fut certainement celui qui aura le plus marque l'histoire du rock. In 1973 two Beatles compilations were released,the first being 1962-1966 recognizable by its red cover and the second one is 1967-70 with a blue cover covering a specific era of The Beatles`s career.These were double LPs at the time and with their CD release they kept it that way,with the double discs.As with every other compilations there are complaints to be made,this one is no exception to the rule in fact it has its share of problems as well.It is however a very good choice to start with the 1962-66 and 1967-70 compilations if you get them both you will get a good idea of the band and all.It might not be the best(and its not with the more recent greatest hits such as 1 and Love) but its still worth taking a look at but there ain`t nothing new on this one be advised its just a plain greatest hits.This one covers what is probably the best years of the band when they did great albums and masterpieces,its to note that this blue compilation has 2 more songs than red does and the songs are noticably longer and in some cases even better.There is plenty of classic stuff here such as "Strawberrie Fields Forever" and "Here Comes The Sun" worth hearing and picking up this compiltation for if you don`t already have all this.I think they should have added more songs but i guess they wanted to keep it exactly like the original,wich they did really well.There is nothing new at all with this compilation album except its on CDs,no new songs,videos or anything while they could have added unreleased tracks as there were plenty from that era but they just made it real easy and just remastered everything.You have 28 great songs for the most part and The Beatles are such a great band and they really are worth getting into if you are wondering.Overral at the time it was released this was alright but not by today`s standarts,still the songs remains the most important and if that`s what you`re looking for this is not the best place but still a good place.It is interresting to note that in 1973,their fans were still waiting for the Beatles to regroup again but it never did happen,i doubt seriously that this greatest hits did anything great to their career maybe except give the members a little cash.

Andy: when writing a review of an album, please refrain from bestowing your wisdom upon us with biographical information. The space here is for album reviews; we don't care what color the album jacket is, nor do we care which Beatles were married when. And listing album tracks is not reviewing an album. For your information, Paul McCartney wrote "Hey Jude" for Julian. John had nothing to do with the song. And also, after commas and before and after brackets, you need to hit the space bar on your keyboard.

I have had this on 8-track, vinyl, cassettes, and now finally on CDs. These classic songs only get better with age. My favorite album - ever.

Despite the number of releases in the late 90's with the Anthology series, the Beatles greatest songs have been compiled only one time in the last 30 years, in 2000's "1". It's fun to go back to the companion 1973 releases "1962-1966" and this "1967-1970" (28 tracks, 99 min.), and marvel in particular at the latter's song selection and sequencing.While now a bit awkwardly on 2 CDs, the original double vinyl was the perfect package. The song selection is just about perfect, really. Nothing to take away from "1", but can you really call that the ultimate compilation of the Beatles when it doesn't have "A Day in the Life" (the definitive Beatles song?) or "While My Guitar Gently Weeps"? Maybe it's too soon yet after "1", but I really believe there is room for a 2 CD collection of the entire Beatles catalogue (greatest hits and essential album tracks) along the lines of "The Definitive Bob Dylan", a great example of how to use the full capacity of CDs. Is anyone with me on that?

And there's a good reason why! While the hits that propelled them to international stardom are the ones of which most "purists" salivate (i.e., the ones found on THE RED ALBUM covering 1962-1966), it is the latter stage of the FAB FOUR's career that I find most fascinating. It was during this time that they were their most experimental, most challenging, and most controversial. Theirs was the music that influenced a generation and this showcases their most memorable tunes and provocative tunes. I bought this three decades ago and still consider it among the best collections ever assembled.
