    1 out of 5 stars A huge disappointment   January 12, 2005

Having played the PC versions of both CSI and CSI Dark Motives, I expected the X-Box version to be better. Boy was I wrong! Where do I begin?

First and a foremost, the game is full of various bugs and glitches that not only make the game look bad, but hinder gameplay. There are break-ups in graphics and jumpy audio tracks. But that is not the worst of it. When comparing DNA, fingerprints, shoeprints, or tire treads to one another, you'd think when you get two images that look exactly the same that they'd be a match. Well, apparently not in this CSI laboratory. When confirming what is obviously a match, turns out it's not, while images that look nothing like each other are. Although I still managed to complete the cases through sheer guesswork at some points, these factors made it very difficult to do so.

The second big thing I found wrong with this game left me saying, "huh?" There is no continuity in storylines between the first CSI and Dark Motives. You go through the first 5 cases as a newbie CSI and are introduced to the CSI cast by working cases with them. When you complete the fifth case, you think you're going up in the ranks. All of a sudden you're working your first case and being introduced to your fellow CSIs all over again. They literally threw the two games onto one disk and left it at that.

The one thing I will give this game is that the cases are interesting and the character adaptions are well done. The audio quality and the cast voiceovers are impecable.

If you're thinking of buying the X-Box version, save yourself some unnecessary frustration and buy the PC versions instead. They're well worth the extra money.
