Finally a book in French that talks intelligently about improvisation. Christophe Tournier has done what no body else seems to have been capable of doing in the French language. For too long now French improvisation has existed in its own little micro universe of "Match d'improvistion" without knowing (or even believing) that other forms of improvisation existed or were worth thinking about. Tournier opens up the vast world of improvisation to a French public in a clear and unbiast fashion. His guide efficiently covers the main principals of improvisation developed in the world over the last fifty years, giving an excellent insight for beginners and a useful clarification of concepts for old timers. There is also an excellent chapter on the history of improvisation which clears up all sorts of queries on who did what and when? No more pub brawls about who came first the Johnstone or the Gravel !! His list of games is also very well presented and I particularly appreciated the honesty with which he always tries to name the original author of the game. Tournier is not trying to present himself as an impro god, he just wants to set the records straight and make sure everyone has the right information to work with. I've told all my French students to buy this book. Finally French improvisors have a quality reference book for Improvisation. I cannot insist more on the fact that every French reading improvisor who is serious about what he does should buy this book. Thankyou Christophe, I think this book will change things and move people forward.

Le "Manuel d'improvisation theatrale" de Christophe tournier est desormais une reference en matiere d'ecrit en francais sur le sujet. Ce livre est complet, fourmille d'idees et d'exercices et contient un historique tres interessant sur l'evolution de l'improvisation jusqu'a nos jours. Bref, ce bouquin devrait se trouver dans la bibliotheque de tout improvisateur, debutant ou confirme.

Ce livre couvre vraiment completement le domaine de l'improvisation theatrale en ne se limitant pas au seul jeu francphone du "Match d'impro". Outre un apercu des principes valables dans tout type de spectacle ou d'activite utilisant l'improvisation theatrale, il donne une liste exhaustive des jeus et sepctacles de part le monde, donnes des exercices pratiques, liste de nombreux sites internet.Un chapitre est meme consacre a l'impro comme technique de communication (en entreprise, association etc.) ce qui est une originalite par rapport a de nombreux ouvrages en la matiere. La "bible" pour tout improvisateur qui se respecte et une excellente entree en matiere pour celles et ceux qui debtutent.
