    Amazon.co.uk Review

Even the youngest of babies have active minds as they lay in the cot, and the Starlight Dreamshow from Tomy is designed to occupy those little minds, then relax them and lull them to sleep.

Consisting of a small, plastic moulded star, measuring roughly 14cm (5.5 inches) from tip to tip, and 6cm (2.5 inches) in depth, the dreamshow includes a plastic strap to fix it to the cot.

Move the switch from "off" to either the "5 min" or "10 min" setting, then choose between pictures only or pictures and music. On the latter setting, the dreamshow will project small, pastel images of teddies, stars, moons and clouds onto the ceiling, while playing through three soft and gentle lullabies. On the first setting, the pictures are silent. If your baby isn't asleep by the time the dreamshow automatically switches off, just press the on button again for a replay. The dreamshow can also be switched off early, during either or the timed programmes.

The strap can be fitted to the dreamshow to fix it to the cot side, or it can be used freestanding on a chest of drawers or bedside cabinet. The image of a teddy bear on a cloud on the front of the dreamshow finishes off the effect and makes this a lovely addition to any nursery. --Lucie Naylor

Suitable from birth, the Starlight Dreamshow, requires 4 x AA batteries (not included)

4 out of 5 stars Really helps my older baby settle to sleep   November 30, 2008
    Madeline (Kent, UK)
We were given this light show as a gift. When our baby was newborn to be honest it didn't really help him go to sleep. From about 6 months though, it has really helped him settle and drift off to sleep. We use it most nights and the batteries seem to have held up well so far.

I noticed another reviewer mentioned the attachment to the cot - it isn't particularly sturdy being just a couple of velcro straps and older babies would love to bang it through the cot bars. We overcame this problem though by placing it on the floor next to the cot, well out of reach of little hands! It's a compact enough unit that you can do this too. Also, there are the disadvantages of no volume control and no option of light show only.

    5 out of 5 stars Fantastic!   October 17, 2008

We bought this for our little girl when she was about 2 months old. She is now six months and this product is great. In the four months of using it, it has failed to put her to sleep within the 10 minute cycle only 3 times (when she was teething). Would strongly recommend it to other new parents!

    5 out of 5 stars FAB   October 8, 2008

My 6 week old baby boy has a thing for gazing at lights or the sun shinning in through the windows whenever he was awake and it would stop him crying too. So i decided to buy one of these to see if it helped settle him at sleep times. My god!! first time we put him down with it he was mesmerised and we didn't hear a peep from him. Works a treat strongly recommend it.

3 out of 5 stars Okay but not that great   July 28, 2008

    Strengths:
    - Very lightweight
    - Cute music
    - Cute pictures from the light show

    Weaknesses:
    - Can easily be pulled down by baby using its fingers
    - Pictures are on a rotating disc, so may become boring after a while.
    - Once the baby sits up in the crib, this can be hazardous if it't attached to the side, because the light has a warning not to let eyes come in the way of the rays.
    - Probably useless after the child is four months old, if not before.

A better buy, in my opinion, would be the mobiles from Tiny Love that have farm or zoo animals. These are well-designed, durable, and can be used well into the toddler years (without the mobile part). My 1.5 year old still enjoys playing the tunes from the base that held the mobile (which I removed around six months). I could not bring myself to take it away from him to give to his sister, so I had purchased this little Dreamshow.

4 out of 5 stars Great Product   June 29, 2008

My little boy loves this, and I do too. It's great for distracting him as I leave the room before he goes to sleep. Wish it lasted longer than 10 mins though this is generally long enough.

My son is now 10 months and has started hitting the star so that it rattles the side of his cot so not sure how much longer it will be of use to us. Also, I live in Northern Scotland and even with blackout blinds its not dark enough at night in the summer to see the light show, still benefit from the music though.
