 Noisy, annoying and not what you need. December 2, 2008

We don't need all the bells and whistles or lights and screens, we just need to hear if Junior makes a noise so we went for this basic unit. Unfortunately our house (not an old one) seems to be the intergalactic gathering place for static.
No matter where we place the parent unit, we get a very annoying continual crackling noise. Only way to minimise it (but not remove it) is to switch off everything electrical - which makes for such a boring evening we'd be better upstairs watching Junior.
Even when we managed to get the static levels lowered we could hardly hear any baby noises because this system just isn't that sensitive.
From the other reviews it seems that some people have no trouble at all with these things but the only way to be sure is to have an electrical technician check the noise levels on your house mains. I'm guessing it would be cheaper just to buy a more expensive system.

I ordered this product and had to return it as the interference was so bad it was not possible to hear anything else. We tried it in all rooms, and all plug sockets, to no avail. We replaced it with the Tomy Walkabout Baby Advance, which is far superior. In this case, it is worth spending double! Don't waste your time with this one, go for one that works.

As has been mentioned in previous reviews this plug in monitor creates a low buzzing sound which is perfectly acceptable. However, it is absolutely impossible to plug and other electrical product into the mains in the same room as the receiver without this low buzz becoming a very loud buzz, which consequently managed to wake my daughter from three rooms away.
A nice cheap idea, but this flaw comes at too high a cost and i will most certainly purchasing an alternative

we bought this as a second monitor, for travelling. don't buy it! the sound is sooo quiet you have to have the volume turned up to maximum, but it has a constant crackle/interference noise on it. we thought it was faulty so took it back & replaced it, but the second one did exactly the same. rubbish
 Disappointed July 21, 2008

I was disappointed with this item. I bought it to replace an old monitor which had finally given up. I liked the fact that it was very simple and a good price.
I live in a brand new house so there should be no problems with electrics etc. but the humming is very noticable and it does not pick up noise from my baby very effectively even though it is only 1.5m from her when she is in bed.
I am now looking for a replacement which will be more expensive, but probably better value.
