`This book will only tell you the `horrible' bits of London's history. To really get a fair and honest picture of the past you need a book that will tell you all the good AND the bad things about a piece of history. But.. Beware of the `disclaimer', the `HORRIBLE HISTORY' warning:- `This is NOT the book to give you a fair and honest picture of London! This book will only tell you the horrible bits of London's history - about the bad, not the brave; the horrible, not the happy; the dreadful, disgusting and dirty, not the dear, drippy and delightful.' `Loathsome London dishes the dirt on life in the capital - the lies, the legends and all the lousy details, from the rotten Roman rulers to the plague-ridden peasants. Want to know:- what caused the Great Stink of 1858? why the flying dustmen were feared? who ate a tosher for tea? History has never been so horrible!' 127 packed pages, split over 14 chapters:- Ancient London timeline Terrible Tower Middle Ages London timeline Awful for animals Terrible Tudor and slimy Stuarts timeline Cool for criminals The Loathsome London quiz London language Modern London timeline London's lousy jobs Terrible for tots to teens Barmy buildings Under London London ends with an introduction and an epilogue. Written in various fonts with humorous black and white illustrations/cartoons throughout, which are sure to draw the most reluctant eye!
