A bit of an overegged pudding! October 6, 2008 Urbangril21 (Scotland) Having read Peter James' Roy Grace books I picked this up to give it a try. Phew...I have rarely come across such a bloodbath. It got almost silly as characters dropped like flies all around our heroine who blunders dopily on without realising that seances in the haunted Cellars of Old London Town (copyright Hammer Horror) might have just a smidgeon to do with unexplained disasters thereafter. Like, duh. Our heroine is a pain, her knight in shining armour is unappealing, his child is equally unappealing either as junior Hugh Grant or Damien of Omen fame and even the promising guy who shares her office turns out to have feet of clay. Shame. But I have to admit I did read it to the end, so it must have had something going for it. Not a patch on the Roy Grace books but not the worst I've ever read.
More Peter James for me. September 12, 2001 6 out of 7 found this review helpful
Having previously read The Alchemist I thought I would try this book and I must say I was not dissapointed . This is a cracking story. It scared , thrilled and entertained me completely. I did not find it quite as good as The Alchemist but I will certainly be buying more Peter James books
Supernatural suspense full of horrifyingly amazing surprises March 5, 2000 11 out of 11 found this review helpful
I have to say that before I even picked up 'Prophecy', I knew that I was going to enjoy it immensely. Why? One name - Peter James. I am not normally so obvious of extreme adulation for one author but where Peter James is concerned, I am!. 'Prophecy' was equally as good as 'The Truth', better than 'Alchemist' and 'Host' and nearly as exciting as 'Denial'. The main character, Frannie Monsanto meets Oliver Halkin and their coincidental meeting sparks off other spooky parallelisms. Coincendences?. Frannie, along with her friends years ago experimented with a ouija board with horrific circumstances that could cost Frannie her life. But why now? Why are these horrors happening now? What message did the ouiji give to Frannie?. How are these coincidences linked with Oliver?. Peter James is a very talented author with a refreshingly exciting approach to reflect his interest in medicine, science and the paranormal. 'Prophecy' explores the paranormal influence on Frannie's life and the extreme horrors that are caused. It's a relatively short novel which captures your imagination and evokes both fear and enticement. I recommend this novel to all those of readers that enjoy a supernatural suspense full of horrifyingly amazing surprises.
