3 out of 5 stars why the book's so short   October 1, 2007

i think this book is part of a project to give those adults who are learning to read, interesting books. from an interview i heard on the radio, adult learners are often given children's books.

apart from being limiting, that could be very patronising. basically the book is short so as not to seem like an insurmountable challenge to a learner.

i know amazon give the book's no. of pages, but perhaps given that keyes' books are normally long, they could have made the shortness of the book clearer.

you can always return items to amazon if you don't like them

    1 out of 5 stars you can't call this a book   July 26, 2007

When I selected 4 Marian Keyes books for holiday reading, I did not expect one of them to be no more than a sample book. 64 pages does not constitute a book priced at 3.79. I have to be honest and say I did not even look at the number of pages there were, its not something I would normally have a problem with. I feel very short changed in purchasing this.

2 out of 5 stars should have been an illustrated novel ...   March 13, 2007

I am a keen Marian Keyes fan, and eagerly purchase all of her new novels. But this one is very different, and a bit of a disappointment because of it. Firstly it is very short - at 64 pages really only a chapter. Add to that, the MK brand of humour is conspicuously absent - no doubt the story content is partly to blame (although MK has dealt with death before and not faltered at the challenge) but it feels as if the length works against it. There simply isn't the time to develop the quirky characters and sense of humour that usually characterises a MK story. I can't help but feel that it would have been improved by some strong visuals, and that a Terry Pratchett-esque illustrated novel treatment would have provided some depth to the characters. My recommendation - a pleasant enough story, but don't expect a MK classic read or any stand out "fabulous characters - it simly isn't there.

I read other reviews and thought it is a marian keyes book it can't be bad, but the book isn't bad, just over very very quickly, It isn't a night read, a minute read, be warned if you don't mind it being a very quick read, enjoy....

2 out of 5 stars No Dress Rehearsal   August 10, 2006

I am a big Marian Keyes fan, but felt extremely disappointed and let down with this book. It is very short so not at all worth the price. The story leaves you reflecting on life and living, which I am sure is the aim, but for a Marian Keyes book it hasn't got the captivation and flow that her other stories, even the short ones have got. I would not recommend paying full price for this book, unless you want to add to your Marian Keyes library and don't read much!!
