A most interesting and useful reference work. August 22, 2001 Neil Spalding (neil@spalding42.freeserve.co.uk) (Edinburgh, Scotland) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This book builds on the great body of work by Sir Charles Oman and provides a great deal of background material on the officers who were wounded or died during the Peninsular war. The author has painstakingly gathered material from a number of sources and is to be commended as the result is a work of high quality. Very much a reference book for the historian and well worthy of 5 stars for usefulness to those researching the period.
THE History of the Peninsular War July 28, 2001 sysy16@yahoo.com (Scotland) 15 out of 15 found this review helpful
These books (volumes one to seven) are VERY detailed. Oman has put in a massive amount of research although this can at times overwhelm the reader and is to be avoided by casual readers. Sir Charles Oman's History is reasonalby un-biased for a Britsh Historian, esp. compared to Napiers work on the same topic.Full of orders of battle, losses, maps and other vital information to historians and wargamers alike these books are a must for any serious student of the Peninsular War.
