4 out of 5 stars John Wayne is being himself.   September 20, 2005
    B. Chandler (Arlington, Texas)
Log before "The Deep" there was "Wake of the Red Witch" A fury filled adventure and a passionate love story with Gail Russell who says, "...I can't be bought."

The "Red Which" is the name of a vessel. In the late 1800's John, sea captain, pits himself up against ruthless (Dutch) people and a giant (flimsy) octopus and (sturdy) Gail Russell in an effort to recover some pearls. And someone gets killed in the movie.

You get an early view of Gig Young as Sam Rosen who can be seen again in "Ask Any Girl" (1959)

All in all it is a very watchable movie and you may be surprised that you get caught up in the story.

    5 out of 5 stars He's got my name!   September 3, 2005

    My name is Kim Ralls.
My favourite part of this film is hearing John Wayne saying "Ralls" in that thick drawl of his that we all know so well. I first saw this film when I was about eleven or twelve (I'm now nineteen) and then was unable to find it anywhere for the next seven or eight years. I was so pleased to be able to watch it again in even better quality than the first time.
