Utterly charming November 19, 2008 Seren Ade (UK) I bought this film (on budget DVD) as a last-minute impulse purchase. It was one of several movies bought for a girlie weekend in: the only one I'd never heard of before... and the only one I would EVER voluntarily watch again (indeed, I already have: thrice). This is a beautifully-crafted story about love, families and lies. With superbly pitched performances by all concerned and a NOT straightforward ending. HIGHLY recommended.
A favourite! October 10, 2008 C. P. Costouros (Athens) This is definately one my favourite films of all time. I loved the "feel" of this movie. It's slow but it's not boring, quite the opposite. And this is the beauty of this film. For, despite the fact that it is not an action-packed film, the story is stimulating, dramatic and full of impact and yet it progresses effortlessly. It is a beautiful story, sweet, sensitive, melancholic and inspiring. All the actors are absolutely magnificent and because of that it is so easy to relate to the characters despite the fact that the storyline is quite extrordinary. In particular Gerard Butler is absolutely amazing in this film. Not only is he unbelievably gorgeous but his acting is fantastic too. Not a lot is said in this movie, but he manages to convey all of his feelings, thoughts and emotions and that speaks a lot about his acting ability. This is a fantastic film and it's such a shame that it is not that well known.
Dear Frankie - dear film September 30, 2008 C. Bendle (S. Wales, UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is one of those films that slips under the Hollywood radar. It doesn't try too hard, and it doesn't fill time with pointless scenes. It tells a heart warming and poignant story, and it tells it very well. Emily Mortimer is perfect as the mother trying to both protect and make her deaf son happy. Gerard Butler doesn't steal the limelight, but blends well with the other characters. Whilst providing some light relief are the scenes with the children. I would recommend this film to anyone wanting to be entertained and uplifted.
Takes my breath away....every time July 30, 2008 Daisymoo (Sheffield, UK) A truly fantastic film, perfect in every way. The story is incredible, the direction flawless and the acting superb. Gerry Butler is his usual devastatingly handsome talented self, and Jack McElhone is probably the best kid actor I've ever seen. Powerful performances by all. I can't recommend this film highly enough, perhaps now my all time favorite movie. I've had it 5 months and seen it about 9 times, and it takes my breath away....every time. Buy it, watch it....you won't regret it.

This is how films ought to be made. Amazing story. Tenderly acted. Uplifting and life affirming. Everyone involved in the making of this film ought to feel proud. A fantastic achievement. I highly recommend this film.
