    Editorial Reviews:

    Amazon.co.uk Review
For those who found 2004's Aliens vs. Predator too lightweight in the gore-and-guns department, Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem offers a marked improvement in both categories, as well as a respectable amount of rumbles between the title extraterrestrials. Set in the 21st century (which predates the story to all of the Alien features), Requiem sends a crippled Predator ship crashing to Earth in a small Colorado town; unbeknownst to the locals, the craft is loaded with H.R. Giger's insectoid monsters, which make quick work of most of the population. As the human cast is slowly whittled to a few hardy (if unmemorable) souls, a Predator warrior also arrives to complicate matters and do battle with the Aliens, as well as a ferocious Alien-Predator hybrid (dubbed a Predalien by the sci-fi and horror press).

Visual-effects designers and music-video helmers The Strause Brothers (who make their feature directorial debut here) keep the action on frantic throughout, which is wise, since the dialogue and characters are threadbare at best; that should matter little to teenage male viewers, who are inarguably the film's key audience. Fans of the Alien franchise, however, may find the offhanded nod to the series' mythology given during the finale its sole saving grace. --Paul Gaita, Amazon.com

4 out of 5 stars Everyone Takes It Too Seriously!!!   September 19, 2008

AVP2 is a movie, like the games which were made for fun. They weren't made to be the next big thing or the greatest movie known to man. This movie was made to see Aliens ripping themselves and human beings to pieces... how hard is that to grasp?!?!

The acting isn't the best but i've seen alot worse in HARRY POTTER! The FX are great, lots of lasers, blood splatter, head exploding you name it this film has it. I give it alot of stars for 2 things... seeing a pregnant woman exploding to reveal baby aliens inside her (cute lil things) and for the fct they had the nerve to kill off an innocent child in the first 10minutes!

This film has been given sooo much bad reviews because it wasn't as good as ALIENS or PREDATOR but did they make the movie to be a blockbuster?!

This movie is a fun gory sci fi B movie. Nothing more, nothing less. It does exactly what it says it does.

Also another thing, people complaining about the movie being soo dark, maybe you lot are just blind because I watched this film just an hour ago and it looked fine to me.

Overall if you love seeing alien creatures beating the snot out of one another then this one is for you!!!

1 out of 5 stars Wake me up when it's over   September 11, 2008

Alien, yes. Predator, yes. Even Alien v Predator, yes. What happened? I suspect some of my prejudice comes from the fact that this was supposedly set in Gunnison, a place where I spent some wonderfully formative months, and this was definitely not shot there! I am very good at suspending disbelief on the whole and it is extremely rare for me to actually fall asleep during an action film. This is terrible. When I was awake it was all too dark to see anything. I wouldn't buy this even when it turns up on the 2 rack in Tesco.

1 out of 5 stars Bankrupt franchise! not worth the single star!   September 9, 2008

I enjoyed about 30 seconds of this movie, we get to see a glimpse of the 'Predator' home world and then for the rest of the movie i kept looking at the clock. Produced for teenagers or whomever, it makes no difference, it is a terrible movie and i'm reminded of the 'Billy the kid v Dracula movie from the 50's, they have something in common, they are both crap! Don't watch it, don't think of renting it because all you are doing is putting more money in to the pockets of the thieves that made this garbage. Thank you very much.....

3 out of 5 stars A load of mindless fun from a film that doesn't pretend to be anything other than a sci-fi B movie   August 19, 2008

The trouble with AVP2 is that it has now become the film everyone loves to hate and even if people dare to like it they're too ashamed to admit it. The root of some of these hysterical reviews is that the film somehow belittles the Alien franchise and therefore tarnishes the earlier masterpieces from Ridley Scott and James Cameron. But people who insist on comparing AVP2 with the Alien films are missing the point, the only thing this film has in common with the original alien films is the alien itself, apart from that the parallels end there, they really have nothing whatsoever in common with each other, even the timelines are completely different!

So if you can jettison any emotional baggage concerning the original Alien films, you'll probably enjoy this throwaway sci-fi a lot more. If you still hate it, then fair enough, this film is most definitely not to everyone's taste. The plotline is very simple, the acting very basic, and a lot of the dialogue is painfully corny. But no one watches action films for accomplished acting performances, so why judge this so? And to be honest I've seen far worse acting than this in supposedly superior films. Some of the acting in Alien 4 was far from Oscar nomination.

I think as long as a film's not boring, even if that means it's appealing in a "so bad it's good" kind of a way, then you have to judge it on its merits. This film never has any dull moments as the action is relentless throughout, and even though it's not particularly scary and is all fairly predictable, it has to be said the special effects are top notch and very professionally done.

My advice to anyone watching this is to try and forget it has any connection with the original Alien films and treat it as a standalone sci-fi B movie. If you still hate it then that's fine, but if you like it, then don't be afraid to say so as there's far more boring films out there than this. For anyone who likes sci-fi and plenty of action, AVP2 is an enjoyable piece of mindless fun that should keep you entertained for an hour and a half.
