Product Description The Coolpix P5100 from Nikon picks up where the Coolpix P5000 left off, integrating a higher resolution and more advanced features while maintaining the comfortable design and feel of its predecessor. The Coolpix P5100 is equipped with a 12 million-pixel sensor and 3.5x Nikkor zoom lens for capturing images in finite detail, while the VR optical vibration reduction system and 3200 ISO sensitivity ensure snaps turn out clear and defined. Meanwhile, the Expeed processor works to improve the camera?s reaction time and enhance photo quality in general. The magnesium casing of the Coolpix P5100 was designed to provide optimum handling, while the practical command keys ? including the quick mode selector ? switch easily between exposure modes (P, S, A and M). There is even a face detection mode to bring out the best in your group photos. This camera also has a real image optical viewfinder and large 2.5? screen for optimum visual comfort as you snap and touch up your photos. The Nikon D-Lighting and red-eye reduction functions even out the lighting and remove red eyes from your shots. The Coolpix P5100 comes with a high-capacity battery (250 photos for one charge) and is compatible with SDHC memory cards. You can also choose from a host of optional accessories and expand the creative possibilities even further! The Coolpix P5100 will be the perfect companion on all your photographic adventures.

Nikon Coolpix P5100 August 3, 2008 A. Glaser (South London) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I had thought about getting a DSLR, but was concerned about dust contamination and spending an endless amount of money on Lens accessories. However, you cannot go wrong with a Compact, with a massive 12.1 MP,the P5100 is a highly specialised Compact, more the Bridge end of the market. With Shutter, Manual , Aperture and Programme options, you have ample control ,although Auto is more than adequate for most tasks. It has comprehensive menu settings (inc 15 scene modes) that gets some getting used to, but it does everything a DSLR can do. The 2.5" LCD screen is bright and provides colour rendition of the first order. Also the highest ISO is 3200, so that should get you out of some dark lighting situations. The movie operation seems to only be in Sepia or Black and White. Trying to find the colour option still. Very impressed with close up shoots, the stabilization is superb. Thank you Nikon
First big test and it failed July 19, 2008 Anthony Johnston (Doha, Qatar) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
This is my third Nikon digital camera : I started with a 990 and moved to a much smaller 4200. I have been very satisfied with both these cameras. So at time to upgrade, having looked hard at the Canon G9, I stuck with my familiar brand, Nikon. I am now in China, my first major trip with the new Nikon P5100 and the camera has failed me. The optical view finder, a key feature in my choice of camera, has failed and does not operate over the full range of the zoom so I am forcd to use the monitor, which has appalling reflections in any lighting, and I frankly hate using. The camera is made in Indonesia, while the G9 is made in Japan. This was pointed out to me by sales staff, but I had counted on Nikon's quality control. Sadly I will not forgive this failure : I will only buy Japanese-made cameras in future and have bought my last Nikon. I will replace it with a Canon G9 asap.
Nikon 5 Amazon 0 June 5, 2008 Simon Gibbens (Hampshire, UK) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I can find no fault with this camera at all, apart from the fact that it is my wife's. The problem is Amazon. When I purchased this camera there was a limited time offer (send away) for a case and a memory card. I never received these items and Amazon have been unable to comprehend this fact or offer any help at all, my emails are answered with references to a completely different offer. I suppose I should be gratefull I've received the camera.
very satisfied June 1, 2008 D. Simons (New York, NY USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I found it difficult to find the right camera as there is too much on offer. After reading a large number of reviews on dedicated camera review sites, I selected the P5100, and I am very satisfied with it after using it for a month in different weather situations. It has many 'scene' options, that make it easier to take a shot that has the right exposure/lighting. I find that over- and under exposure is the most common problem with digital photography, and this one actively helps to reduce that. Another problem I had with my previous Sony was that many pictures were blurred, despite my hand being quite steady. The result with the P5100 is much better, as at least 80% of my first 150 photos were very sharp. It actually also has a special 'anti-shake' setting, though most photos taken without this setting also came out well. For close-ups however, I recommend to set the camera in the right scene, or the chance is high it will be blurred, I found. All in all good value for money. Would buy again.
