There are many cheaper digital frames on the market but, when compared side by side, the image quality on the Philps puts most to shame.
We have had one up and running, switched on the whole time, for a year now with no problems. Build quality and functionality are also in a different league from the cheaper models around.

I have purchsed three of these over the past 6 months one failed in a few days the second failure was after 3 months.
Philips have a clear quality problem with this item.

I bought one of these frames as a gift for my girlfriend. I thought it would be nice to put all our holiday photos onto it for her birthday. When it arrived I thought it was a good looking piece of kit, sturdy and well built.
Turning it on, and using the quick start guide I had no problems getting it up and running. Yes, the buttons are on the top out the way and this means you have to feel around and use the manual to see what they do, but surely this is better than having unsightly buttons that are visible when looking at the front of the frame?
It took me only a few minutes to get my photos onto the frame. I took my SD memory card straight from my Digital Camera, plugged it into the back of the frame, and hey presto all the photos were on it (and were nice and clear, and of a real good quality!). One downside though is that you have to orientate all your pictures manually on either your camera or computer to ensure that they are displayed the right way up on the screen.
It was easy to set up a slide show, and I liked the fact you can set the frame to turn itself on and off automatically at certain times - saves the light from it annoying you, if for instance its in the bedroom.
I wouldn't worry about the lack of speakers or video playback. Your buying this as a photo frame, not a media player...and if your sitting watching TV, reading a book etc. you wont want your frame to constantly distract you every time a video/audio file comes around on your slide show. If this is what you want, then I would recommend a dedicated media player such as a Creative or Apple number.
Now here is where the problem started. My girlfriend had the frame for 5 days. It was on slideshow mode, set to turn itself off at 10pm and on again at 8am. She was very happy with it, and it looked good in her room displaying our holiday snaps. Though when she came home from work that day at 5.30pm it was turned off - which it shouldn't have been. She checked the plug etc. and it was set to be turned on. At the rear the green light indicating it was receiving power was on, but the on off button and reset pin wouldn't rectify the blank screen. Basically, the frame had died.
Amazon were excellent. I notified them of the problem and they sent a courier to pick it up, and sent me out a new one. This worked good to begin with too; however this one only lasted 4 days before the very same problem arose!
I had to return this as well - though wanted a refund this time, Customer Services told me this seemed to be a widespread problem with these frames which would pop up every now and again.
In conclusion: it was brilliant and worked well when it DID actually work. The fact that two died for no reason though tells me that the build quality of the hardware within it is a tad substandard!

Unfortunately I have to agree with some of the other reviewers. After an initial enthusiasm I have ultimately been extremely disappointed with the reliability of this product. I received one as a gift and instantly thought it was great: It looked good, well built, excellent picture quality. On the negative side the software / user guides were poor, but I eventually worked out how to load photos onto a compact flash - I had 1,000+ photos on one disk.
I was so impressed that I bought a second frame. However after I received this second frame, almost from the word go the second frame started misbehaving - it would switch itself off then back on after 20 seconds. This is fine if you only want to look at 4 photos! At this point the first frame started to display the same symptoms, but after much longer periods (rebooting after 10 mins). Philips customer support was unhelpful and could only suggest downloading new firmware - however both frames had the latest firmware version.
Amazon kindly replaced the second frame, however within 24 hrs; the replacement was displaying the same worrying symptoms. The first frame now completely fails to switch on properly. Both LED lights stay on even when you switch it off. The first frame which is almost 12 months old cost close to 200, obviously they are cheaper now but they are still expensive. Due to the poor reliability I would not recommend buying this product

Very easy to set up, just stick a memory card in and it is working straight away. There is no need to install anything on your computer which will no-doubt add to all of the rubbish that companies tell you to install with their products. You can plug it in via UBS and view the "hard drive" of the frame and work it form there or just use memory cards. The screen size is adequate and looks very good overall when running, when it's off it can look strange with just a black rectangle showing so you can make use of the auto on feature which will turn it on and off at specific times each day. Perfect for a birthday / christmas present, just load the photos on before then give it to somebody.
Update: Nov 08 , the frame has now broken and has had to be returned. Just would not power on any more even though the power light was on.
