1 out of 5 stars Incompatible with Samsung camera!   May 12, 2008
    Sam (UK)
    Very disappointed with this...
I wanted a frame that was very easy to use for my technophobe mother and, although the picture quality was very good, and the slideshow started straightaway, it was very slow and I had numerous problems.
I was particularly keen on the auto-rotation feature - a previous reviewer said that it automatically recognised EXIF rotations. This didn't work at all. So I rotated them on the PC instead. More importantly however, these rotated images were shown as "invalid" when viewing the thumbnails. This is despite the fact that they were taken with a Samsung DSLR camera, and not modified at all other than rotating them. I then had more problems uploading images to the frame memory - it could only manage about 6 at a time before claiming that the memory was full (which it wasn't)
I contacted Samsung technical support, who suggested I probably had a faulty item, so I returned it to Amazon and got a replacement. Exactly the same issues, so it was either from a faulty batch or the product is just not up to scratch.
I then went a bought an 8" hi-res Jessops frame for less money and with more features which is fab (still meets the "switch on and it works straightaway" criterion, and it doesn't have a stupid logo on the front).

    4 out of 5 stars DONT UPGRADE FIRMWARE TO 1.011.2 !!!!!!   February 5, 2008

Excellent photo frame. Due to my fiddling intentions though - I looked up the latest firmware which promptly rendered it unusable. Off to samsung to be repaired at the moment.

    While it worked -

The pictures were bright, colourful, and very sharp. It is very good resolution. The user interface could do with some work as it is not very intuitive, but for doing the job it was intended to do - it's great.

Especially like the automatic, timed on/off feature.

    Very good frame .

5 out of 5 stars I have used the rest now see the best   January 31, 2008

I must admit I am baffled by some of the bad comments this product has received. So let's have a general overview before a summarisation.

I am not going to go into depth of how certain manufactures use other manufactures basic displays or am I going to deliberate on the quality of components used by budget vendors compared with "quality" vendors.

What I can say for sure is that SAMSUNG is one of the vendors that are in the top elite companies that manufacture LCD displays. These range from TVs to computer displays to this photo frame. You only have to read the rave reviews they get for their TVs and computer screens to realise that they are pretty good at what they do. Just in the event you think I am biased towards Samsung, I have a Pioneer plasma TV -better technology for TVs- and two Samsung PC LCDs. These were purchased through a pain staking process of review, technology research, and demo as I am not one to spend my hard earned cash on something that is not going to last or is not going to give me what I want.

Reviews: reviews are great before you purchase a product as it gives you a feel if something is good or not depending on the believable accuracy of the reviewer.

I read the review by the aforementioned chap that traversed though every outlet until he purchased the Samsung. For me it was a "from the heart" detailed review. But as sceptical as I am I decided to see for myself -pretty good advice to anyone- as the purchase was for a very much loved family member. The reviewer's comments were 100% accurate this is the best photo display I have seen to date.

Quality of picture and technology awareness.

If you have a poor quality photo on a PC e.g low resolution, blurred, etc. then it does not matter what medium you use to present the photo, it will always look sub standard -unless of course you can sproose the picture up by having a degree in photoshop.

The product is one of the few that is high resolution, top quality and beats the rest on construction, presentation and what it is supposed to do....display your photos exceptionally well.

    Ease of use

I remember when the first VHS and betamax "hardware" arrived in the early 80's back then my older family members found the technology unworkable. Some people mention today that you need a degree to operate a mobile phone or PDA. Sorry chaps I am no spring chicken and if I can do it anyone can. I never read the manual for this device, switched it on and read what the on-screen display showed me. Quite frankly any young person in their teens would laugh at the ease of simplicity with transferring files and setting the device up. I read one review that stated the Samsung screwed up their PC! Really, you have got to be kidding, it's a USB connection not a virus -don't believe me research it for yourself.

Another reviewer mentioned they received the wrong power supply! Is this a fault of the product of did the supplier source the product from the US or other global market to replenished back dated stock. The reality is because someone gave you a product meant for another region, is not an excuse to say it does not do what it does well.....display super images.

Summary: This is the best display I have seen to date. There is another version that is Wi-Fi enabled meaning you can have a larger photo base -from PC- than be restricted to the on board storage or memory card limitations. My best advice is.....don't believe me, check it out for yourself. I am off to buy another one for another family member. Happy shopping

1 out of 5 stars Missing Cable   January 18, 2008

I bought this as a Christmas present for someone but when we opened the box on the day there was no power cable, which kind of ruined things..... I had a cable for America/Europe though, only problem is it doesn't reach that far!

Moral of the story is to break the seal before you wrap a present!

Prompt collection & refund by Amazon though..... still didn't help on the day
    mind you.

Its now January 21st but still no refund from Amazon......

3 out of 5 stars Good picture quality but falls short   January 10, 2008

I was given this as a Christmas presents. First impression was good looking frame. The silver gives it a slick and minimilistic look. The picture quality is very good. My 2 draw backs are that firstly it can only be powered by mains. Secondly, because ther eis no remote control you have to fiddle with the buttons on the side of the frame.
