1 out of 5 stars Zero star   November 18, 2008

i simply couldn't use this camcorder, it can not detect the 4GB card and can not format it, i have just lost my money for nothing.
i rated it one star because i can not chose 0 star

4 out of 5 stars Nice unit, but with a slight storage anomaly...   November 17, 2008
    Professor Pyro (Surrey, England)
I received the camcorder very quickly and established that the built-in memory gives about 30 seconds of footage; no problem there, as I'd also ordered the 4Gb SD card which was recommended. several days later, the SD card arrived (from a different seller) and was quickly fitted, only for the camcorder to flash the front LEDs and power itself off as soon as I tried filming with the card. Tried re-formatting the card in the camcorder (this corrupted it, requiring re-formatting it in another camera), but with no improvement. Tried using the Vivitar phone numbers printed in the User Guide, only to discover that they are not in use. Sent two emails to the seller, but received no reply; telephoned the seller's Customer Service number and it was suggested that I try a 2Gb SD card. Having now bought an additional 2Gb card, I have fitted that and the unit now appears to behave well. So...I'd advise disregarding the line in the Tech Spec with suggests that it takes "up to 4Gb SD card", as it probably means "up to, but not including, 4Gb SD card". Other than that - and particularly in view of the price - I have no gripes yet, but it was a frustrating introduction.

    1 out of 5 stars Faulty?   November 15, 2008
    Marco A. Domenici
I purchased this camera together with the 4mb SD card. I was not expecting amazing quality and was just looking for something to carry around with me on the odd night out. I was aware of its limitations but I was hoping for mediocre footage, easily downloadable and playable, combined with portability.
    Unfortunately mine was practically unusable.
When I tried using it with the memory card the machine would just shut down as soon as I pressed the record button. This was both in video and camera mode.
It would record on an old 128 mb memory card I had but then when I went to review the clip it would take ages to load, it would start playing and then promptly freeze half way through.
I tried downloading the footage to my laptop to see if it would play but again I encountered problems with playback. Windows media player would not recognise the format. The only way I could view it was by using the software provided with the camera.
I gave up in the end and just sent the camcorder back for a refund. Maybe I was unlucky and it was just a faulty machine but I was not prepared to take a second chance with a replacement.

5 out of 5 stars you have to buy this!!!!!!!!   November 13, 2008
    J.B.Fletcher (England)
this is such incredible value for money. it does everything it says it will. the record and photo quality is brilliant, so is playback audio.there is a flash on stills and video. Even comes with a tiny tripod and duracell batteries!!!! i cant fault this at all.it's neat, sleek and a great little performer. If you want something small that fits in your pocket for holidays and trips out, then look no further, get this.Forget the negative reviews, this little chap is amazing!!!

4 out of 5 stars Beware card compatibility   November 10, 2008

The camera is great now I have a SanDisk 4Gb card. The unit does not work with the Transcend card recommended by Amazon, nor with any card over 4Gb apparently. I wasted my pennies on the Transcend card which DOES work in other devices so is not faulty.
