Excellent size and performance September 26, 2008 Mark Johnson (Liverpool, UK) I thought long and hard about buying this camcorder and in the end was won over by the size. Now, having been on a tour of the west coast of the US for a couple of weeks I can say that this little camcorder was worth its weight in gold (or should that be titanium?) for the sheer portability alone! so tiny and compact and very, very easy to use. It got admiring comments from the rest of the tour group and had that wow factor. A good choice in the end. OK the price of 16gb cards is high, but they will come down. Another classy product from Sony.
Belongs to 2nd decade of 21st century! September 7, 2008 Arthur Wyatt (London England) 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
The first two people that saw my video of Scotland asked me "Where can I get that?"! The 16GB/sec is incompatible with the 15GB/sec (cannot be played on) on the HDR-CX6EK and according to the net there is something innovative about the 16GB format? Wonderful sound and picture - only drawback was tracking a bird of prey but would not have had it with me but for the fact that it goes in a shirt pocket. No complaints about the weight from me!
Extremely impressive... September 3, 2008 S. B. Selvaraj 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
This is my first camcorder. Did lot of research before buying this. My requirement was simple, 1) Compact 2) Good picture quality 3) Compatible picture format. Opened the pack...So compact, it fits in to my pant pocket, shot few clippings in our garden, connected to my 1080i TV... The picture quality was stunning, absolutely amazing... Copied high def content in to my laptop, and tried to play the content in my laptop and it was struggling. Decided to change the settings to SD(Standard Definition High quality)..Connected the camcorder to the TV... the picture quality was equally impressive... It stores the files in MPG format if you shoot in SD mode, copied the files in to a DVD, tried to play the files in my DVD 1080i up-scalling player... Same great output... Decided shoot all the videos in SD HQ mode till I buy a blueray player. Extremely happy... Will recommend..
Great if you know what you're doing September 3, 2008 Paul (London United Kingdom) 1 out of 4 found this review helpful
No complaints about the camcorder but lets face facts - unless you know what you're doing, have a powerful computer, a blu-ray player or a DVD recorder, AVCHD remains a nightmare. (The suggestion that you plug the camcorder into a TV and watch from that makes little sense, unless you want to buy a new disk every time you fill one up - it does look good that way though.) I got it working on a Mac but it's painfully slow and when you finally burn the disk the compression means the quality is well below that of an old VHS recorder. Fortunately I have a DVD recorder and bought an S Video cable - Sony VMC 15FS - Video / audio cable - S-Video / composite video / audio - 4 PIN. (you don't plug the yellow cable in anywhere). Compared to the composite cable provided this has made a huge difference and the DVD quality is superb but obviously not HD - much better than via Mac or PC. I record all images on the camcorder at maximum quality and back them up on a PC, so when the rest of the world catches up I can produce HD disks - it also ensures that the recordings I make on my DVD recorder are at the highest quality. In the meantime I'm very happy with DVD quality - it's much better than my old DV tape camera in terms of sharpness of image and colours but you have to be careful to keep the camera quite still - even when you have the image stabilizer on as you do get a lot of jerky movement. I'd recommend an AVCHD camcorder if you have time but if you want a simple life just go for a cheap camcorder that burns straight to DVD. The SVideo cable is cheap and available on Amazon - Sony VMC15FS
Sony TG3 August 28, 2008 John Preston (UK) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
i love this camcorder. it is my third and is easily the best. never mind whether you can get HD camcorders with slightly better picture quality, at least with this one, you have it in your pocket when you need it. that alone makes it worthwhile as you get footage you would never other wise have. the zoom is great, the still shots are really excellent for a camcorder and the antishake seems to work ok. i get about 2 hrs on a 16gb memory card, and with a portable hard drive that only cost 40 pounds holding 40gb, i cant see memory ever being a problem. anyway if you reduce the quality a bit you can do over 5 hrs on the card. it is easy to go from SD to HD and easy to record blu-ray dvds as well as standard. i love it and recomend it highly. the only draw back is it isnt as good in low light as my previous dig panasonic zero lux camcorder but lets be honest the pics using infra red arent great anyway. i wouldnt let low light probs put you off unless that is very important to you. in half reasonable light the colours are vibrant.
