Great to look at, but only useful as an ornament! October 4, 2008 Ferndale Nick (Teignmouth, England) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Having read all reviews for this product I really expected something a bit different. I wasn't let down as it has a brilliantly smooth panning action, 3 position legs and fully extends for taller people. Why the one star then you may ask? When I tested it on the level, after sorting out the problem of getting the legs to the right angle, I started panning and ..it went downhill! I looked st the central column and found it was off the vertical by about 5 degrees on one leg. So I checked all legs were out and fully clicked into place, but to no avail. So I then sent it back. Next new one arrives and....you guessed it, same problem, only this time it was worse-15 degrees out! I tried the spirit level on the top as the shop suggested and found at certain points it was level, but as you panned around so the bubble moved to the far end of the level. I even checked to see if my kitchen floor was subsiding, by using the level on the floor surface! I have been advised to get a different model and will do so, but what yet I don't know. Now can you see why I only gave it one star?

correcting a mistake September 19, 2007 Jose Ma A. Abaya 15 out of 15 found this review helpful
I made a mistake when i ordered the Manfrotto 785B tripod thinking that i can use it for my 400D. It turns out the the Manfrotto was specifically made for small video cams and p&s cameras, a fact that was not made clear in the Amazon website. I could have forced to use the Manfrotto, but I would have to remove the battery grip of my 400D and limit the use with my 10-22mm lens. Thereby limiting the use of this tripod as it won't go with my larger lens and 30D. To correct this mistake, I placed an order for this Velbron Sherpa 600. My past experience with Velbron Sherpa 250R was excellent so I didn't hesitate to place this order. It arrived today and immediately upon inspection I am pleased with the build. It's bit heavy but his will definitely serve my needs for taking city nightshots as well as landscapes and seascapes. I also like that the tripod can brought very low to the ground, an excellent feature not found in both the the Manfrotto and my earlier Sherpa 250R. Again, the quick release is greatly designed, much better than the Manfrotto quick release.
Quality Velbon February 21, 2007 S. Cole (Derbyshire) 23 out of 23 found this review helpful
I had been searching for an upgrade from my basic tripod for some time that was both versatile and affordable and I decided the Velbon sherpa 600 was just the job . The adjustable height ranges from a eye-level 6ft to a ground level 28in and with tripod legs that can be used rigidly or with independent movement of the others you have a tripod that can be literally used anywhere. The tripod head movement is both strong and fluid and can be locked or moved very easily. Overall if you are looking for a semi-pro type tripod but do not want to spend a fortune then the VERBON SHERPA 600 is a Star buy.

Great item, great price, great service. This tripod is ideal for the serious photographer. I'm not a pro and this is a great compromise between the low end market and the pro end. The tripod is sturdy, has good easy movement and is versatile.
