Excellant!!! October 10, 2008 N. Bhatti (UK) Sony Cyber-shot W170 Digital Camera - Silver (10.1MP, 5x Optical Zoom) 2.7" LCD Excellant product and well worth the price too. Quality of picture is of very good standard. Derby, UK
Very impressive September 23, 2008 J. Burnand (Bath, UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This best thing about this camera is the wide-angle lense and zoom capability. Of course it's good to have 10 mega pixels if you intend to print A3 size prints but, for every day use, 3mp or 5mp is more than enough. I use this Sony W170 digital camera as a back-up for my Sony F828 which is a large SLR type of digital camera for professional use. In terms of picture quality I can see no difference. The larger camera cost over 500 a two years ago and this Sony W170 is only about 130 today. To quote an earlier reviewer "Isn't technology good these days". I agree.
Small but powerful.. Excellent Cam.. Highly impressed September 20, 2008 K. R. Nanavaty (Cork, Ireland) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
W170.. what a camera? Before buying this, I read many reviews and then thought to go with it. It is only couple of days that I have used it but it is working like magic. Smile Shutter, advance face detection, Intelligent Scene modes.. wow, lots of positives in a small package. Smile shutter is awesome. My 2 years old son, just can't stop laughing once camera starts clicking his smiling face. Intelligent scene mode, gives you second image which is taken by camera based on lighting condition. This is realy helpful in getting a really good photo. You still have a choice.. either to keep the original photo or the other one taken by cam itself. Face detection is spot on. light, contrast, color, focus everything is adjusted to high precision. very quick to detect the face unlike my Fuji S8000fd. One can really see the difference on face. Only one problem I found is USB connection. Connection on camera is at the bottom so cant keep camera stand properly. As one side is LCD screen, you have to keep camera resting on other side (front side). There could be a change here but this is a small point. Overall, SONY has done a fantastic job. Superb camera.. mindblowing..
Overjoyed September 5, 2008 Joy Rawlin (Dorset) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Absolutely delighted and simply astounded that this tiny piece of equipment can produce such stunning results. This is my first digital camera experience and it's provided a huge amount of fun. Each photo is clear, the colour stunning and the video clips even indoor under lights very good. The manual is clear and the controls very easy to use.
Sony W170 - Overrated August 22, 2008 C. Armstrong (UK) 36 out of 42 found this review helpful
Having bought the Cybershot W170 on the strength of reviews on this site, I have to say - are we talking about the same camera? Even as a pro photographer I didn't expect a world-beater for this price, but to say I am disappointed doesn't come close. Good points - it is flexible and it is easy to understand - 8/10; it handles contrast and colour rendition pretty well - 7/10 Bad points - image quality across the ISO range. At 80 or 100 it's good without being outstanding; 200 is a bit better than adequate; 400 - just about acceptable at a push, but at 800 and above - forget it. 1600 and 3200 iso seem to have been included in order to say 'we can go to 3200'. The images at these higher settings are processed to death - it's like looking at a picture-shaped plate of porridge. In my camera at least the high iso settings produce images which, to me, are REALLY bad. So, buy the camera for it's flexibility, it's convenience and a decent lens, but don't expect miracles.
