4 out of 5 stars A great machine - just not quite perfect   August 27, 2008

At the time of writing this review, there are two others posted, both of which are overwhelmingly enthusiastic. I agree with everything the authors of those say, but they do not tell the whole story.

First, although it may be obvious, the capacity is limited. The instructions tell you to use 3 eggs and split the mixture between the two wells. So, if you want a 2 egg omelette or a 4 egg omelette, tough; it's two one and a half egg omelettes or nothing.

Second, fillings. The instructions say to put the fillings first into the heated machine and then add the egg mixture, so the result is not a filling in the traditional sense - the result is more like a Spanish omelette, with the filling distributed through the egg. That leads to a problem with cheese, and, although I would guess that cheese omelettes must be among the most popular filled omelettes, there is no reference to them in the instructions. Obviously, you are not going to put cheese onto a hot cooking surface and then add egg. I put a little egg in first, wait a few seconds and then add cheese and then more egg. The result is OK, but not the same as when the omelette is cooked in a pan. I probably need to experiment more to get the technique right.

Finally, the instructions suggest that you might like to cook some fillings separately before adding them to the machine. To my mind, this destroys the point of it, and I have not, so far, found any that cannot be cooked adequately in the machine before adding egg. I suppose some raw meats might be best cooked properly, but bacon cooks adequately (for use as a filling) in the machine.

In case you think that this review is rather negative, please remember what I said first - this is a great little machine. I use it regularly, and far more than most other kitchen gadgets. Unlike cooking an omelette in a pan, you do not need to constantly monitor it. Once you have added everything, just leave it for about 5 minutes. Unless I develop an allergy to eggs, I cannot imagine doing without it.

My favourite omelette - I fry some chopped onion for a few minutes in the machine, add a little beaten egg, then add as much cheese as I think I can get away with (remember capacity is limited) and then a bit more, and finally add the rest of the egg.

best equipment i have in the kitchen, only had it a couple of weeks, when it breaks i will replace it straight away, i have never tasted omlettes so nice, my teenage son is living on them daily. do not need as much ingredients as cooking omlette in frying pan so cutting down on costs there, and they don't taste as greasy either, i have tried bacon omlettes and chicken omlettes and it is making my mouth water writing this review, the micro mark is so easy to use and very easy to clean, just wipe around plates with a bit of kitchen roll and away you go, I hav'nt got a bad thing to say about this machine, I would advise any body who wants and easy life in the kitchen to purchase one straight away from amazon,
