Much Improved Product. December 13, 2007 J. Heale 11 out of 11 found this review helpful
We have recently bought this toaster and were very nervous as to whether it would be deep enough, having read the two reviews already on Amazon. However, Tefal must have taken the criticisms on board and improved the toaster, as we use normal-to-large slices of bread and have no problems at all with depth. We find, like your other reviewers, that it toasts very quickly and we do not need it higher than 3. We have had no burnt toast yet! All in all, we are very pleased with this product.
Great at half price, not worth it at full price March 3, 2007 Mozzie (Dorset) 16 out of 16 found this review helpful
I bought this toaster about four months ago when it was on half price offer and although it is certainly a top quality piece of kitchen equipment that really looks great, I have found the same problem as the first reviewer - it is actually not deep enough for most bread and I have to chop a bit off each piece first or turn it over half way through. It also toasts soooo fast that if you take your eye off it for a second it can burn, but that said, I love thick cut toast (doorstop thick) and it does toast the thick bread to perfection - really crunchy on the outside and lovely and squidgy in the middle... providing it doesn't stay in too long and burn!!! I have never had the variable setting any higher than '3' and often use the defrost button just to slow things down a bit. I have had great success with bagels and muffins etc and am still experimenting. I would say that the toaster is pretty good for about twenty pounds, but might not meet your expectations if you pay more than that for it.
Disappointing! December 27, 2006 G. Wright (Dagenham, Essex United Kingdom) 18 out of 18 found this review helpful
I actually bought this during one of 'Amazon's' great special half-price offers about three months ago. Although it is a quality built, robust piece of equipment, I would have deeply regretted paying the full price. It toasts pretty quickly, but certainly not evenly each side. Whilst it caters for thicker slices, I have to chop an inch or so off my 'Kingsmill' so it's obviously poorly designed in regard to varying popular bread sizes. Probably great for crumpets (although I haven't tried them yet) and the 'high-lift' function would obviously be an advantage here. Overall, okay for the amount I paid but way short of the performance I'd expect for the full retail price.
