Old fashioned is best November 22, 2008 J. Burnand (Bath, UK) Scraping knives through a 'modern' block sharpener makes my teeth grate and so it was time to buy a proper steel sharpener (like my Dad used and his Dad used etc...). There's a bit of a knack to using this Acero Sharpening Steel but, with a bit of practice, it's easy and so satisfying getting a razor sharp edge to a blunt knife. Looks like it will last for years because it's steel.
Well balanced and a delight to use. June 8, 2007 MurlynLAN (England) 11 out of 11 found this review helpful
This is a good solid steel that is a pleasure to use. This steel will get your knives back to high sharpness and keep them that way. Don't be fooled by cheap aluminium "sharpeners" that look like steels in supermarkets, They actually dull and blunt your blade... If you aren't sure if you have one of these at home, check the weight.. steel is heavier and the metal doesn't become black when you sharpen your knives on it (that's thin slivers of aluminium being taken off by your harder knife metal).
