    5 out of 5 stars It's behaving well   November 26, 2008

Thankfully this beast is reducing the moisture released from my enthusiastic cellar whitewashing. It's winter, you're always likely to get some condensation on your windows, so a dehumidifier is an essential item. This is a nice little thing about 42 cm/17" high which you can easily store in a cupboard when not in use and can be comfortably carted from room to room. The cable is about 150cm / 5 foot long. It also comes with an alternative bung and a bit of tubing in case you want to drain it without being restricted by the small tank.

The reservoir is relatively small (you pays your money though!) and has a very peculiar, crescent moon profile- (I've yet to slosh the water over the sides when I'm carrying it to the sink though). There's one dial which of course you turn up to the maximum when you start reducing your humidity. However once you've successfully dealt with your initial dampness, you can start dialling down the level of extraction (it's not pleasant to live in a desert- you don't want to completely empty your house of all moisture). Although the auto cut out (to stop extraction when the reservoir is full) didn't always get cancelled when I inserted the empty tank, I found it was just a matter of adjusting the angle when you shove it back in. It was extremely quiet at first, but it has got a little noisier with use.

I used a De Longhi dehumidifier years ago which died on me after a year- however this looks to be a vast improvement on the design.

This is the type of product I'd never have considered buying until happening upon it by chance on Amazon. It was our first winter in our modern two bed house last year and we suffered condensation on windows badly, leading to the frames suffering a type of fungal growth which wasn't pleasant and risked rotting the wooden frames. After reading about the DEM10 I was keen to try and have now been using one for the last 3 months. It makes a huge difference and the proof it is working is visible from the water that collects in the tank, and the lack of condensation on the windows. The unit is relatively compact and sits on our landing in order to have a central place in the house. The water reservoir is easy to remove and replace, and can have it changed in 20 secs. Normally it's on for about 6 hours a day and requires the water to be emptied every other day. The unit is quiet with only a small hummmm eminating, I don't thing you'd want it on in a bedroom while sleepng but the landing is fine for us. I'd be interested to know the energy consumption of this unit but suspect it isn't huge having seen my last energy bill was less than expected. Overall very happy with this product and would highly recommend it.

I work in an environment that has to have fairly dry air so I've been working with dehumidifiers for years. Apparently my place of work hasn't been keeping up with the latest in technology because up until now I haven't wanted one at home because of the noise. Not this little baby isn't exactly silent but it only makes a noise that's little more than a hum.

The results have been staggering. I used to be able to see the condensation on a number of windows most mornings and often the walls in my stairway were damp as well. Given that the unit is sitting on the other side of the house in my kitchen I find it remarkable that after a couple of days the problem just seems to have gone away.

There are only a couple of downsides I've seen. One is that the tank isn't really that large and for me at least, needs emptying about every two days, which probably isn't bad but I'm pretty lazy. There's an option to run a pipe from the back of the machine directly into a drain so I'm probably going to plumb that in shortly. The other problem is also with the tank and when you replace it it sometimes doesn't register and you have to jiggle it a bit before the machine starts up again. Neither problem is that serious though and I wouldn't let it put you off.

Would reccomend this unit to anyone with condensation problems have had mine a couple of weeks now we live in a two bedroom flat the condensation
was a big problem not anymore all the windows are dry where before I was always having to mop up the excess water and that was only one of the problems we had. Dont be afraid of buying this I kid you not it really does work simple to operate as well.

Super compact and with a carry handle that makes it easily transportable this machine is marvellous. With simple controls easily accessible on the top of the machine its just about perfect.Although there is a water level full indicator on the control panel, the clear plastic tank gives a good idea as to the quantity of water collected. Although I haven't tried it I should imagine with an extension lead the de-humidifier could be useful in a caravan or boat etc(its that easy to move). It comes with an easy to understand manual (believe me not necessary) and plastic tube for permanent connection if required.Recommended..just wish the wife would stop bringing me the tank and saying "look how much water its collected!"
