not all its cracked up to be November 22, 2008 S. Peprah (portsmouth, UK) To be honest, Im quite dissapointed with these straighteners. The grip is not complete, only the top bit grips the hair, and u have to exert a lot of pressure before your hair is completely gripped by the plate.I didnt think the on/off switch is a bother, but I'm beginning to find it irritating that I have to be conscious of where I've placed my hand, and checking every now and then to make sure its still on. The handles also got quite hot after only abt 10mins. Ive been using the Babyliss 200 prior to buying this, and I was so impressed with its results, hence I bought this thinking it would deliver even better results. But sadly it doesnt. I also havent noticed any obvious difference, in terms of results, between the ceramic coated, and the tourm-ceramic plates. If only extremely high temperatures can straighten ur hair, then u can give this a go, but otherwise try sthg else. I bought it for less than half price, but Im taking it back tomorrow.
Great straightener November 19, 2008 S Brush (Wokingham, Berkshire, UK) This straightener is really great. I have been struggling with one which leaves my hair more or less straight, but the curl springs back gradually over the day. With this one, I get a professional straightening which stays, not just for the day but in general. The only thing I wish would be different is that the on/off switch is wear I hold my hand, and I seem to be constantly switching it off. It takes some thought not to do that.
Saves me 10 minute every morning! November 17, 2008 Boof (United Kingdom) I love these! My GHD's (which to be honest I could never quite see the hype about anyway) gave up the ghost several weeks ago and after reading through some reviews on Amazon I decided that these looked like a good bet, particularly considering the relitavely low price. They are fabulous! I takes 10 minutes off my routine in a morning and not only that but my hair stays really straight until the next time I wash it (instead of curling and kinking out the day after). My hair is really thick and can be unruly but when straightnened it looks like glass. I love it. I have knocked off one star only for the fact that the on/off buttons are on the front where I hold the straightners and I have managed to turn it off a few times accidentally. Although this is only a minor problem, I do feel it worth pointing out. Over all though, I would highly recommend these.
Why would you pay 100 for hair straighteners when these do the same thing for quarter of the price?!! November 3, 2008 E. Delag (UK) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Four months ago I was staring down the barrel of three Big Events with hair that looked like a bird's nest that had been put through a blender and then left out in the rain for a few weeks. Appointments were hastily booked and I searched the internet for hairstyle ideas. Naturally, the half dozen pictures I took to the salon were all of straight-haired, high maintenance styles that bore NO relation at all to the mega-curly, candy floss catastrophe growing out of my head! "I've got two small kids, I'm NOT going to straighten my hair everyday." I told the hairdresser, "Can you do a curly version of these styles?" Naturally, she ignored every word I said and finished my hair poker straight. Usually I'd have been quietly annoyed but this time there was a problem. My hair looked brilliant - better than I'd seen it in 20 years, since, well, the last time I had it straight. I could NOT go back to the curly bird's nest. As I was tied up the next day, my husband was dispatched to the nearest store to "BUY STRAIGHTNERS!" He returned with the BabyLiss 2085U Pro230s - then on sale in Tescos for 23. At first I struggled a bit with an awkwardly placed on/off switch - my thumb kept accidentally knocking the off button - but I soon got around this and then realised that my thumb should probably have been on the ridged thumb-grip anyway - oops! Since mastering the obvious, I haven't inadvertently turned them off at all!!! It's been 4 months now and it's been easy to keep up the straightening. Extra long plates mean my mid-back length is fully straightened in 20 minutes from totally curly or in 10 if I'm just redoing the ends (which is enough most days). These straighteners heat up staggeringly fast (c.15secs) and get amazingly hot (settings range from 1-10, I've only dared go to 7 for fear my hair will spontaneously combust)! Some of my friends have suggested the "only decent straighteners are GHDs" but I've noticed that these are girls who tend to like the 'prestige' attached to a fancy brand name. That's fine if you've got 100 to spend on a 'name', I just want straight hair and the BabyLiss 2085U - Pro230s get the job done - fast. Bye Bye bird's nest, thank you BabyLiss!!!
Not good for fine hair October 12, 2008 desperate hair (Billingham) Just got these as my Babyliss Pro 230 Elegance Bronze straighteners developed a fault. There is no comparison, spend that little bit extra and get the bronze. These ones don't grip the hair, it just slides out, they may be okay if you have thick hair but they don't work on finer hair. Also the on/off switch is in a stupid place and it is so easy to switch them off accidentally, which is quite frustrating. If I could return these I would and I can't wait for my others to be repaired. Before purchasing I read all the reviews but unfortunately I don't agree with the majority of them.
