5 out of 5 stars Great watch for travel or outdoor activity   March 3, 2008

This simple light-weight, well constructed watch is 10cm long, 5.5 cm wide and can be clipped on to a belt loop or bag. Ideal for hot climates or environments where you don't want a strap around your wrist. The face spins so it can be seen either way up. While spun out there is a button below the 6 which can be pressed in to illuminate the face with the Indiglo light. By pulling it out you can rotate it to set the time. It is a bit fiddly but the time once set, will rarely need to be changed. The second hand wasn't moving when it arrived, but it started when I set the time and so far it has performed with Timex reliability and accuracy.

4 out of 5 stars an excellent watch   February 28, 2008

    First the pros:
    (1)Easy to read face
(2)Face can be either way up (it spins on its 9/3 o'clock axis)
(3)50m water resistant (so no worries about getting it wet in the rain)
(4)The indiglo night-light which lights up the face (admittedly you have to spin the face out of its locked position and press the crown to do this but that's very easy to do even with one hand)
    (5)It keeps very good time

    Now the cons:
(1)Correcting the time is very fiddly (the crown doesn't pull out far enough to grasp it between finger and thumb so you have to turn it with the tip of your finger, and it does tend to slip back in again - but after a few goes you get used to pushing the crown outwards as you turn it, and anyway you don't need to correct the time that often and then probably not by more than a few minutes so personally I don't see this as a problem)
(2)You have to undo 4 screws and remove the back plate to change the battery (Timex *strongly* recommend you get a retailer (?!) or jeweller to do it, but what the heck I think I can undo 4 screws and change a battery without years of training so personally I'd take that recommendation with a large pinch of salt)

So all things considered a very good watch in my book.

1 out of 5 stars Bad design, dead in the water   January 6, 2008

I needed a watch that I could wear off of my wrist, but don't want a pendant/ fob watch - this seemed ideal. But the design is flawed - you have to pop the face out of the ring to access the controls - it swivels within the bottom ring - and getting at the wheel to set the time is hard - it keeps slipping back in before you have finished.

But worst of all the watch arrived with a dead battery - and the instructions are so badly written and badly printed it took me half an hour to realise it was not my fault that the darn thing wasn't working.

I've sent it back for a refund.
