Back in the bread! December 1, 2008 Simon H. Bailey (Edinburgh, Scotland UK) We bought this to replace a worn out older and larger version that broke down fairly recently. Knowing it was a compact version I was not too disappointed by the size of the tin and the machine certainly takes up less space than our previous one. All the loaves I have made in the machine have turned out well (with the exception of one which just kept on rising like the overflowing porridge pot!!), but the only thing that niggles me is the paddle which always locks itself firmly inside the loaf and does not come out easily. However, since this was the same as our old machine I am not complaining. The digital disply could indeed be brighter but for a basic, straightforward breadmaker this is not a big problem and doe not effect the overall performance of the machine which we have running at least 3 times a week. Overall, an excellent buy that we are very happy with.
A good buy November 28, 2008 Mr. C. A. Jackson (London, UK) I had been toying with the idea of buying a breadmaker for years - and a Panasonic one at that, but had never had a strong incentive to take the plunge. On reading the recent Which? magazine review of current machines, this Morphy Richards model seemed attractively priced as well as being a Best Buy. Most of the reviews here were complimentary, but the handful of critical reports slightly worried me. In the event, the machine has performed superbly in the past few weeks, and wholemeal and raisin loaves have come out consistently successfully. One small niggle: the display is awkward to read, situated towards the top right hand side corner of a lid which is slightly convex. This reservation apart, the MR 48245 is a good buy.
It Works - every time November 21, 2008 A. L. Green (Jersey) I am a culinary dunce but I do like good bread and bought this product because I was fed up with the indifferent bread to be had in the shops. I will admit that I have only used it for making wholewheat and granary type breads and, because I live alone, only for making smaller loaves. However, if I follow the instructions carefully and press the right buttons, I get a fine tasty loaf every time. The results are excellent and the quality totally consistent. What more could I ask? Some reviewers have remarked on difficulty removing the paddle. I have found that it is easily removed with a stiff plastic spatula. So it leaves small hole? Does this make it taste the worse?
Good results so far..... November 12, 2008 S. J. Hill (Portsmouth) I received this yesterday & have already made (& eaten) 3 1lb loaves. I've found this model very easy to use, I chose this one as it was a 'Which best buy' & compact. Any advice on the paddle? The manual states that it may occassionaly get stuck...I've got a 100% record of digging it out of the bread so far....
A bitter disappointment! October 18, 2008 breadlover We purchased this bread maker from Amazon having read the which magazine review. We have previously owned 2 Panasonic bread makers. This machine was a disappointment straight out of the box. The build quality is poor, the cook tin is thin and flimsy (get what you pay for?). The bread produced was a real let down. I agree with other reviewers, the crust settings are ridiculous and tend to burn the crust. The taste is very ordinary at best. The loaves collapse frequently or burst out of the top. We actually found ourselves buying bread (how crazy is that!). I can not recommend this bread maker in any way whatsoever. However, I am most impressed with the way Amazon dealt with my complaint. I emailed them with my complaint details and they responded quickly and efficiently. The machine was collected by DHL (all I had to do was use the web links provided by Amazon)and the money has been refunded to my original credit card. To put all this in perspective I am about to do what I should have done in the first place.......buy the Panasonic SD 254. And I WILL buy this from Amazon.
