This is not opera September 9, 2008 London Lad (UK) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Russell Watson is not an opera singer but a pop singer who for some reason has made a little talent go a long way and has been quite successful here in the in the uk, due to serval TV shows. If you want to listen to a real tenor try Domingo or good old Pavarotti now these men can sing and have been in many opera's.
A tenor trying to be ten a penny?? January 12, 2008 L. Whelan (Limerick Ireland) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This was an excellent album and a great starting point for anyone who isn't famililar with Watson. The mix of music was excellent. It is a "Greatest Hits" album so obviously there is going to be songs from previous Watson albums (in relation to the value for money comment below). Barcelona is a wonderful song on this album and really tests Watson's upper register well. One criticism, I have a BIG problem with the way in which Russell changes into a "pop"/contemporary type voice for a few of the songs. This seriously reduces his credibilty as a serious tenor and I (along with many other critics) would advise him to stick to the classical/tenor voice and avoid that cheap/tacky boyband voice he forces in some songs. Other than that, an exceedingly good album.
Perfect Introduction to Russell Watson January 11, 2008 Mart Music (Essex, UK) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
If there is a best place to start listening to Russell Watson's music, then this CD is probably it. The song selection is taken from his previous four albums and the style of music ranges from the operatic 'Nessun Dorma' to the bizarre duet, with Happy Mondays band member Shaun Ryder, of Freddie Mercury's 'Barcelona'. This 'Ultimate' collection successfully shows off Russell Watson's ability to cast off the preconceived ideas that a singer should decide which genre their loyalty lies, such as pop, classical, opera, or (so-called) crossover, and just sing from the heart. This is an ultimate collection in title only for I think the best of Russell Watson is yet to be heard.
Simply Stunning June 21, 2007 Lynn-Marie Williams (Lancashire, UK) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Great CD! Ideal listening for any one that either likes the classical singers or maybe a superb selection for a Christian too as the collection on this CD is so uplifting. Highly reccommend this to anyone no matter of the age. Lynn-Marie
Wonderful Russell! August 14, 2006 Helen (Romford, Essex) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
This CD compilation is great! Although I have Russell's other CD's, it is always a pleasure to listen some of my favourite songs all on one CD. As usual, Russell doesn't disappoint and his voice is .... what can you say - wonderful! Well worth the buy and his version of "You Raise Me Up" is my favourite. Continue Russell - look forward to your next album!
