Debut albums don't get much better than this, and in REM's first offering it is easy to see why they became one of the biggest bands of our time.
From the opening chords of Radio Free Europe, through the shimmering Rickenbackers of Talk About The Passion, the moody reflection of Perfect Circle and finishing up with the dramatic West Of The Fields, every second of this album is a joy to listen to. If you are new to REM's early albums then this is a must for you and if you are new to REM at all, then this is as good a place to start as any

Each song is a pure jewel. This album came first in Rolling Stones Magazine reader's choice in 82, beating Michael Jackson's album Thriller !!

This R.E.M. album is not one of their strongest. Talk About the Passion, and Moral Kiosk are two brilliant songs, but after that there are very few decent ones. Not an ideal album to listen to at first, but it gets better with time.
