5 out of 5 stars Come on! Just listen to the lyrics, will you?   March 1, 2007
    Marc Newbury (Gwynedd, UK)
This song isn't 'too uplifting' for REM, or anything like it. It's ironic. JUST like REM. Please listen to the lyrics! Speaking about love the song says: 'Put it in your heart, Where tomorrow shines - Gold and silver shine'. And so by proverbial implication: all that glitters is not gold. It's not a cheerful song, fellow reviewers; you've missed the point. It's a song about superficial happiness.

5 out of 5 stars too uplifting?   April 5, 2005
I really like this song and thats coming from a not so much REM fan.
I guess REM just wanted a little change to appeal to more people - if not for a second! Were all allowed a little change lol!
I first heard it on Micheal Moore's film ... urm.... I forget which one. It was the documentary thing!
I wanted to buy it straight away and waited to the credits, while annoying the cleaners, to find out who sung it. It was a surprise for it to be REM. (This has happenned to me before with Batman Returns and the U2 song who I previously thought were completely rubbish!)
Anyway where was I going with this... oh yeah, its a good song and worth a listen even if you're not a REM fan.

OK, as the person below says it is far too uplifting to be a great song but it is still as memorable and the price is MORE than worth it for the acoustic version of "Losing my Religion" alone. A must for any true REM fan and I guess anyone who just wants to bop to "that" song from Sesame Street!

4 out of 5 stars Good Pop Song!!   April 6, 2001
Don't be so negative about this song, it features wonderful vocal arrangements, a great tune and uplifting lyrics. If REM only ever did depressing tracks (and if you ever listened to their records, particularly "Up" you would all know better) they would never be where they are, not their best by a long chalk, but worth more than one star!!

1 out of 5 stars not worth the money   November 19, 2000

This is a shocking song. Nothing compared to most of the REM songs out there, it is just far too uplifting, something which they are not good at. REM have always specialised, in my opinion, in depressing songs, and this doesn't fit in at all. It is far too repetitive and only has about 10 seconds of decent music in it when the beat disappears about a minute before the end. Don't bother
