"At the rocks" is the second album made by the German indie rockers, and they made great progress in songwriting and performance. The first (self-titled) album wasn't bad either, of course, but "At the rocks" is much more complex. Of course you'll find some straightforward, highly melodic rock songs ("The joke is on you", which sounds like Blink-182, "Parkdrive 31" or "Finally fine"), out of which the first album mainly consisted, but the four boys from Heidelberg have widened their musical horizon while making this record. "Tired" is a very beautiful ballad covering the whole scale of "emotional" rock music; "Suzanne" and "Curtainfall" are a little gloomy and melancholic; "The opera" is a fine indie-rock track totally different from the catchy melodies the band normally write. In my opinion one of the best rock albums to come out of Germany in 2000.
