Before her record of Leonard Cohen songs (a masterpiece!) Judy Collins had regaled us with this approach to Bob Dylan (originally released in my country as "Judy sings Dylan").
The songs were all newly-recorded for this album - and this makes for stunning pieces such as "Like A Rolling Stone", "A Simple Twist Of Fate", "With God On Our Side" and "Bob Dylan's Dream".
The 1990s production and arrangements don't detract or distract from Judy's beautiful soprano. Her voice remains awe-inspiring and moving. Sometimes I prefer her covers to Dylan's originals but that is probably blasphemy - and a matter of personal taste.
I've had this record for 9 years now - and I go back to it often, always feeling I come back ever the richer for it in the only sense that matters to me.
