The name of Burt Bacharach appeeared in the mid 50s on a Perry Como hit-Magic Moments and since then Marlene Dietrich's former MD has never been away.At the moment his latets collaborator has been Elvis Costello-hard to have imagined in the punk era but then the Bacharach name has been dropped by many from those times.
His own Easy Listening albums are not actually the best way to be introduced to the music-its the hits and covers which say more and what its all about.
In other words Bacharach never cut any albums until well into the British Invasion Years when he came to Lodon to record a few songs which became his first album issued on Kapp and which used the voices of a Vernons Girls splinter group called the Breakaways. Thus came the first U K hit with Trains and Boats and Planes which competed with the cover by Billy J Kramer.Because the Breakaways were signed to the Pye label in the U K their names were left off
With Dionne Warwick thrown into the limlight-and the charts-Cilla Black, who'd covered Anyone who had a heart-charted with a song specially written by Bacharach-Alfie.
On this CD is the first appearance on record by Dionne Warwick who is part of Burt & the Backbeats-this being some time before her own career began as she and her sister Dee Dee were backup singers anyway.
Burt Bacharach, like Carole King, became a star in his own right ususally conducting an orchestra rather than singing the songs where his own voice is never heard. And like Carole King he is responsible for the music-the words are from others.
His music fits into many categories from high school pop to Northern Soul and he'll never be out of fashion
