On the lighter side of psych December 7, 2007 N. J. Taylor (UK) With its harsh sepia cover depicting a scene from a Nazi propaganda film - and with the band's name being the same as that of a Seattle grunge act - you can be forgiven for presuming that All of Us is a heavy album. It isn't. True, it can be counted amongst the plethora of psychedelic releases of the late sixties, some of which were very heavy indeed, but it's more Moody Blues than 13th Floor Elevators. That's not saying anything bad (I happen to love the Moodies) it's just unexpected. Also, there're a couple of tracks amongst the bonus material on which Art/Spooky Tooth do the backing. Those particular numbers (though faded out just as they start to really go for it) are much more pumped up. Nirvana is basically two guys, one from Ireland, the other from Greece. The influence of their nationalities does show through in the melodies and choice of instrumentation, but not overly so. The level of musicianship is very high, the tunes catchy and the production professional. All these factors combine to create a pleasant listen with a few choice moments of psych weirdness. I'd advise this album for lovers the lighter side of psych, e.g. The Zombies, Amen Corner, The Byrds, Manfred Mann, Love, The Hollies, Donovan etc.
Music for a Time May 28, 2007 D. Smith (Australia) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The music of the British Nirvana appeared in the late 1960's. It was never widely popular even though their song "Pentecost Hotel" did receive considerable airplay. They were popular with people who liked melodic acid influenced rock. The songs nearly all have orchestral backing and are far removed from Led Zep or Hendrix. There is however a delicacy of spirit and a sensitivity in this music that is very unusual. The song writing had weaknesses but was "almost" very good. However, it has been 40 years since these songs were recorded and with all their faults I still love listening to them because they capture the essence of a very special and short lived time.

I have not heard the whole album but i'm very familiar with the track "Rainbow Chaser" as my dad was the drummer on this track all those years ago. Great song and i'm eagar to hear the rest of the album.

A slice of time, a slip back to days when we bought records that had been created rather than "produced", you need your thinking caps on for this one! Memories of cold nights, friend's bed sits, red wine, fisn and chips, a toke or three shared, and then a dip into the psych waters! Brilliant! It all comes rushing back!
All of Us [ORIGINAL RECORDING REMASTERED]. March 2, 2004 K. G. R. Carpenter (England) 9 out of 15 found this review helpful
The second Nirvana album is rated by most people as their best album, containing the hit and minor classic "Rainbow Chaser" Less whimsical than their remarkable first album it is a very strong and coherent collection that is further enhanced by three B sides and one non album single in "Oh! What a Performance" which featured fellow Island band Spooky Tooth and is one of the best tracks the band recorded. Elsewhere the delicate "Tiny Goddess" was a much played on radio at the time but missed out on the charts, while "The Touchables" was from the film of the same name. The album marked progress in their musical direction showing a more mature approach and sadly was never bettered. Given the censorship at the time I am amazed that no one ever picked up on a line in "Frankie The Great" it never fails to raise a laugh.
