    Editorial Reviews:

    Amazon.co.uk Review
Amy MacDonald is that proverbial old head on young shoulders, a Scottish singer-songwriter who, despite her tender 19 years, writes songs with the grace, wisdom and proficiency of one with a score more on the clock. As influenced by The Libertines as any venerable old folk hand, the eleven songs on This Is the Life combine a traditional, acoustic folk-rock sound with a youthful spirit and self-assured lyrics that veer between the observational and the confessional. "Poison Prince" is a jagged guitar strut dedicated to some Doherty-like bad boy, a song every bit as pathos-laden as The Libertines at their doomed, romantic best with a closing treatise to find "An upbeat song/So we can dance the night away", while "Mr Rock & Roll" begins as a wryly withering jibe at some perennial party animals, but by the chorus, has softened into a subtle, touching tale of human coupling. MacDonald's age doesn't seem to have been an impediment; "Youth of Today", reportedly written when she was 15, is one of the better tracks here, while "Footballer's Wife" is a clear-headed attack on vapid Barbie Doll celebrity that suggests this girl is very much on the right track. "Rolling Stone, here I come, watch out everyone/I'm singing my song" she sings on "Let's Start a Band". Let that be a warning to you. --Louis Pattison

The most talented artist that came out of 2007. Every track could be a single. 19/20 year old with all this wonderful music in her. Brilliant.

Many of these songs have an excellent use of rhythm, beat and bass to create very catchy pop rock, yet retaining the simplicity of singer/songwriter style folk music. My roots are in 70s/80 rock music and yet I really love this.

I bought this album not expecting much and was blown away. It is totally refreshing to hear such a young girl singing against the current celebrity culture. Have seen her live and she is a greta live performer as well:)
Stand out tracks for me are Run, Let's Start A Band, LA and Poison Prince. You won't be disappointed.

This is a fantastic CD that everyone should hear. Spread the word. Even better if you see Amy live. Enjoy.

5 out of 5 stars Enchanting and Enriching.   April 28, 2008

This music was such a wonderful surprise when I first listened, timeless and not at all reflective of its creator's youth; it continues to be a revelation. The underlying folk influence fuels more straightforward and somewhat subdued yet uplifting rock arrangements that caress a voice so endearing it almost brings tears to the eyes. She has a fragile, frail element in her delivery combined with the hint of a Scottish accent. The songs linger yet create a need to return to them again and again. They are full of melody with wonderful sing along choruses, interesting vocal inflections and lyrics of depth. Of many new releases over the years that grace my Ipod few remain in their entirety, but this lp is glorious from start to finish. I hope this is the beginning of a long and bright future for Amy but this album alone secures its place as an accomplished thing of beauty that will be listened to and enjoyed for a very long time.
