    2 out of 5 stars Not pleasant :(   November 25, 2008

Only 2 out of 8 good kills so far,

I'm quite fond of our mice, we have spent a lot of time looking at each other round corners, but now the house is back in one piece, they've got to go. Have been live trapping until the weather turned cold, but apparently released mice tend to starve pretty quickly. So off I went to buy the best traps I could with the idea that if you're going to kill something then you should do it as well as you can.

The first time I got a mouse, about 30 minutes after setting the traps, I was aware of a strange rattling sound under my desk, looked down to find a mouse with it's smashed face caught in the trap running in circles. Had to finish that one off by hand. The next mouse fared slightly better, but was still caught by it's head, rather than it's neck. a little testing made me realise that the traps were too light and were jumping backwards when released.
I then glued the traps to a board for more weight. They're getting the mice a bit further back now, but aren't generally causing enough damage to kill the mouse outright. More half-bricking required. Why is there a sleeve on the trap arm? - I know, to avoid people having to look at blood, not for the mouse's benefit.

I'm just buying some "Little Nippers" as I remember with a little fettling they seem to work very well, however still not perfectly.

I wonder if the RSPCA could do a cruelty rating on these things, there's some real rubbish about.

    We need a better mousetrap!!!!

5 out of 5 stars Efficient mouse dispatch   November 6, 2008

Whilst researching mouse traps I read various horror stories about traps not cleanly dispatching the mouse because the spring was not strong enough - or conversely the mouse being 'splatted'. The reviews here encouraged me to get this trap since my resident (field) mouse had defeated a 'live catch' trap. I put a bit of chocolate in the deep bait pot and within 2 days the mouse was caught - efficiently dispatched without gore. I'm a bit girlie and squeamish with regard to (dead) mice but the quick release mechanism meant that I was able to plop it in to the bin without looking at the corpse and without having to touch it.

    4 out of 5 stars Fantastic   October 3, 2008

    These traps are fantastic.

Last Winter I bought 3 traps and killed a total of 16 mice over the space of a week, I had no more bother from the mice until about a week ago when I started to set the traps again as I started to notice droppings in the boiler room.

The traps had weakened slightly and were not as sensitive (mice were getting bait without trigger trap), so I had to purchase some more yesterday - already I have caught 2 mice tonight. I hope that's the lot or that I catch more of them.

When you release the mouse from this trap - you pull up the second bar and there is no physical contact with the mouse, you can just release it straight into your bin.

Bare in mind that no trap will catch a baby mouse (they aren't heavy enough to trigger the trap), try the glue traps for the babies they are very effective but you have to kill the mice yourself with a hammer or similar - some say this is inhumane but the health and safety of myself and family are more important to me than the well being of a disease and parasite harbouring rodent.

    5 out of 5 stars Cheap - Simple - Effective   April 11, 2008

Originally bought & set 1 trap to confirm infestation in roof space was mice. Baited with peanut butter, 1 night = 1 kill (though all bait taken, presumably by others).

Night 2, set 5 traps = 3 kills. Night 3 = 4 kills. Left for subsequent nights but no more kills or ongoing signs of infestation. Job done.

Going to leave set with dry bait (just in case).

Traps are very easy to bait, and equally easy to release kills without getting too close to, or touching bodies (for the more squeamish). Strong spring ensures clean (instant) kill. No blood or other nastiness, just broken (& very flat) necks / backs.

    Cheap, simple and very effective

Better than Little Nipper and other cheapo basic mouse traps because:-
    1. strong spring
    2. bait storage is excellent (round pot) for prunes and peanut butter (best baits I've found); just remember to pack the bait in tightly
    3. clean kills. No nasty spikes so no blood and guts (the string spring helps)
3 (clean) kills out of 3.
