The item is not as robust as I had expected it to be and it took me quite a long time (and several sore fingers) to put one together. I had someone help to put the second one together, which made it slightly easier but by no means was it a quick job even then. I had anticipated being able to take it apart to store in the garage over the winter, but I cannot face the thought of having to put it together again next year, so it will be bulky to store.
The access points in the base sound good but in practise I found it difficult to slide the cover up (although it was possible) and I ended up bruising my arms on the edges when reaching in to harvest potatoes.
I also tried out some potato bags, which were smaller (and cheaper). The crop was about the same from each, but I found it was actually easier to use the bags as all I needed to do to harvest was tip the bag into a wheelbarrow and pull out the potatoes.
I do quite like the terracotta style planters but I prefer the alternative bag style planters, particularly as those just fold flat at the end of the season and are ready to use on arrival.
