1 out of 5 stars Very disappointing   August 22, 2008

I bought this in April thinking Bosch must be a good product, it is not. The line runs out very quickly and has a tendency to break off inside the spool. Getting into the spool to find the broken line is a test of patience! - there is a fiddly plastic ring which defies logic how to get it off and on. Also the bump feed button protrudes from the base which retricts the cutting height. Not a recommended buy.

It seemed a good budget buy. It's easy to use & ours has worked hard for two years keeping the gardens of two houses looking neat.
The major problem has been getting spares, there are plenty of stockists of trimmers but few of them sell Bosch parts. Consequently I've ended up using other brands of trimmer line & this does affect performance. Finally the spool assembly has broken. The rest of the trimmer is fine & has plenty of life in it, but it may be easier simply to throw it away & start again.

What a disappointment! What at first appeared to be a rugged, well made and simple to set-up device just can't do the job. It failed to catch the edges, and what's more, the plastic-blade (on a reel) repeatedly kept getting warped or simply cut off! Not what I expect from Bosch - you can do a whole lot better.

4 out of 5 stars Good for light to medium work   May 31, 2008

If you are just trying to keep a well organised garden in trim, this is a great little strimmer - not powerful enough for tackling overgrown bush and stringy weeds, but fine for trimming the grass on edgings and paths. A few other reviewers have complained about having to push the button to advance the line. I don't find this a problem really, just tap the strimmer lightly down on your garden path or any firm surface whilst the motor is running and presto, it's done - you'll hear a pitch change down in the buzzing sound as the line grows longer. No strimmer line will last forever, especially if you are strimming near brick edgings where it wears away pretty fast. By the way, the blade is there to standardise the length of the line as it advances. I've had experience of the brutishly powerful strimmers in South Africa ("WeedEaters" as they are called) which can easily severe a hand from an arm. One of these, this is not... but then we are fighting a bit of grass over here in the UK, not semi-grown trees and the occasional cobra!

this strimmer is a real pain, the blade cuts the line (fair enough)but it then for some reason only sticks out an inch out of the reel(impossible to strim),then in the hour i used it it completely disappeared, and what a fight to get the end off (probably impossible if you are arthritic)then of course you get back to the line being to short to strim.no i'm going to have to buy another black and decker,my last one was excellant.
