Awful! September 9, 2008 Nightowl (Worcestershire, England) I bought this mower because it was light and I have to carry the mower up a flight of six steps to go from the front lawn to the back. Ok so far. However I long I spend cutting the grass I spend as long again clearing up the grass from the patio windows which get spattered, the patio itself which is now stained and all the pathways to stop grass being trodden into the house. Also it does tend to "scorch" on slopes. What a waste of money - back to old faithful (but slow) manual.........
Next to useless June 27, 2008 Mr Posh (Nottingham, UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This lawnmower is quite simply awful if you have anything other than a small, level lawn. I imagine if you did have a lawn like that it would be adequate, but for some reason I have struggled for years with one of these because I assumed an uneven lawn with slopes would be need a hover mower. I have had enough and will be buying a Bosch Rotak (28 five star reviews - I hope it lives up to it!) Either way, nothing can be as difficult to use and as tiring as one of these. Grass blown everywhere, no chance of cutting up to the borders without scalping, sooo heavy to push once it is half full and for those early/late damp cuts it is pure torture. Flimsy, poorly built and a terrible hacking of the grass even when blades are sharpened. If you have any lawn with mossy areas it becomes virtually impossible to push, so you end up dragging it. I really don't like it!!
Poorly designed and even worse performance June 15, 2008 Martin W (Chester UK) Bought this after having previously owned an ancient Flymo Hover which I had been quite satisfied with. But what a let down with this model. For a start it has been designed by an idiot: Riddled with nooks and crannies that suck in and hide loose grass that's very difficult to remove. Poor flotation that works perfectly well one minute, but suddenly for no reason digs in, scalping or leaving gouge marks cut into the grass surface. Grass collection is almost non existent - it leaves behind or blows away more than it gathers. I could go on and on - suffice to say that the people at Flymo want stuffing for allowing such a heap of junk loose on an unsuspecting public. I, for one, will never trust or buy Flymo again. Be warned!!
I really like it! June 11, 2008 R. McCardle (Kent, UK) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I was a bit shocked when I saw all the 1 star reviews for this, as I've had it a year or so and am 100% pleased with it so far. We have an average suburban sized lawn, and this mower keeps it neat and tidy with no fuss and very little effort. Once the motor is going it's really easy to move about, but the lack of wheels may make it bad for someone with a bad back/old folks when trying to move it when switched off. The grass box holds enough to do most of the lawn before having to be emptied and the cable is more than long enough. The only down side is that if it's really dry out, as soon as the grass box fills up you get a blast of dust and grass stright up your nose! Also, you can't adjust the cutting height so if you've left your lawn to get really long you may need to cut it twice to get it to a proper level. A word to the wise - you can get this much cheaper from high street stores.
Disgusted with build quality June 6, 2008 M. Exley (England) I bought our Compact 300 13 months ago. I bought it to replace a tiny micro Flymo jobby that had done us 10 years faithful service before it expired shortly after we moved to a bigger house and garden. This one came with a 1-year manufacturer's guarantee and lots of stickers urging me to call to activate a 3-year parts 'n' labour warranty. Along with some small-print telling me that will cost another 50% of purchase price. Which I therefore ignored. You can tell where this tale is going: the motor seized solid on me tonight only 5 minutes in to my (hour? something like that) weekly mow. So I look around the net and find I'm not alone, either by model or by brand. Stupid thing is I have been perfectly happy with the performance of this mower up to now: cuts OK, is decently manoeuvrable, collects well enough for my purposes and has been the right size for our garden. But none of that is relevant now, because I have to say that my overwhelming recommendation is to AVOID this model and think hard before getting a Flymo of any sort. I strongly advise potential buyers to do a search for "flymo" and "seized motor" before purchasing. For myself, I won't be repairing it and I definitely will not be buying Flymo again.
