satisfaction from customer service at Delonghi October 23, 2008 marcy DeLonghi Metropolis KBM3011 Jug Kettle. I have never written a review before but wanted to let people who had bought this kettle and were disappointed, know that it is worth contacting customer services at Delonghi. I too was disappointed with the difficulty of the lid and when I read the amazon reviews I e mailed them with my complaint. They replied that they had no other complaints about the kettle!!! However they sent me a replacement lid and it is no longer a chore to fill the kettle so my guess is that they have altered the lid in some way. I was on the point of buying another kettle because it was so difficult to get the lid off and on. So it might be worth an e mail to them.
Smart Looks and a Good Buy September 20, 2008 Michael Paul Richards (UK) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I nearly did not purchase this after reading the reviews. However, having enjoyed it for a month now I took this unusual step (for me) in writing this review. Firstly, in terms of construction it is a well made robust kettle that will withstand normal use without chipping, however, if you are clumsy and are prone to knocking things you will undoubtably chip it ( and any other similar product too if it comes to that!) Secondly, provided that you follow the manufacturers instruction prior to use, ie boil the kettle three times and empty the contents each time (ie do not use) you will NOT have a problem with strange tastes in the future. We are very satisfied with the De Longhi - my only criticsm is that it is quite noisy when boiling compared to the previous plastic kettle we had - that apart it is a good looking and very serviceable product.
Metallic taste September 10, 2008 N. EVANS (Bristol, South Gloucestershire United Kingdom) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Had one of these for over a year. First impressions was of a metallic taste to the water - especially if you reboil. Hoped this taste problem would lessen with time - unfortunately not. Looks good - but bad water taste - make your own mind up what you want from a kettle!
Don't waste money on this kettle! August 18, 2008 H. Smith (London) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
It's got a lovely look about it this kettle and that was purely what was it's main draw for us. We bought it along with the toaster to match out of our wedding vouchers and ended up being disappointed from the outset. I couldn't believe how many other people have experienced the same problems as us with this kettle and surely this should be enough to help you to decide NOT TO BUY THIS KETTLE!! How Delonghi have the cheek to charge so much for it is a disgrace - practically the design is atrocious and despite it's 'limescale filter' it collects limescale like a beehut collects honey! The fact that you have to take the lid off each time you want to refill is ridiculous and all that's created is a scratched area around the lid. The last straw for us was when it started leaking everywhere and looking at other people's reviews we're not the only victims of this. It's obviously a design flaw and therefore this kettle should be withdrawn by Delonghi - don't let them get away with it! We have had to throw away this 55 kettle. All I can say is it's lucky we kept our old one in the garage which is doing a good turn until we can afford to buy a new 'fancy' kettle. It won't be a Delonghi though. The only good thing about this kettle, is yes, it looks good and yes, it does boil quickly - whoppee.
Style over substance August 11, 2008 J. Bloss (Wolverton, UK) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
This kettle does look great but is let down by a number of practical issues with the design. I haven't had any issue about the taste of water like some reviewers have reported and it does boil pretty quickly. However there are a number of issues that mean it is not a very good kettle - the lid is metal and therefore gets very hot, it is also not very easy to get in and out with just a little loop handle to grip. The kettle is quite heavy too. The indicator for how full the kettle also mists up a bit and is positioned behind the handle so not easy to check when you're holding it. I also have the 2 slice toaster but am very pleased with that but I would recommend avoiding this kettle unless De Longhi improves it considerably.
