Just got this rower from Amazon. I've been looking for a rowing machine that wouldnt send my bank account into meltdown and I almost couldnt believe it when I saw this machine for 59quid. Build quality seems sturdy, but on inspection I realsied the silver plastic casing around the front had been split (probably in transit). I removed it and fixed it internally with super glue. I'ts only cosmetic but the repair only took five mins. The machine was very easy to assemble and like I said, seems very sturdy (excluding the silver front plastic cover). Rowing action seems nice and smooth-I'm only 5'7 and eight and a half stone, so for a guy I'm quite small and light but the machine feels nice to use. The computer readout could have been larger but you only have to momentarily stop or slow down to get a reading. The only thing that worries me about this product is the weakpoint-yes, the webbing strap that is used to pull the handles and anchor the hydraulic ram underneath. Looking closely at it, I can see the chinese have used a pretty shabby looking strap for this part, so I'm guessing it will break. The stitching could possibly be reinforced. Because of this, I have set the machine to a resistance just below mid-way, the setting being 5. It feels like the right resistance to start off with and I'm hoping it inflicts less stress on the webbing strap. Overall, this seems very good value for money, just missing five stars beacuse of the weak-looking webbing. I can only hope by the time the strap goes, York have sourced plenty of spares into their stock, otherwise theere's going to be a lot of angry customers! Early days yet...

I am a 147cm height female trying to find a good low sit, which will fit under my small camping desk right next to my bed. Because I am small I need to keep myself good fit in my body muscles and weight. It fits me well as a sit and a part of my excercise plan. I do regular excercises and weight lifting 5-6 times a week but do not want to be static while thinking,working at the desk and waiting some responses on the internet. My life seems to be full of inspirations now becasue of this rowing machines.

First impresions were good. Heavy, robust body and decent supports/legs to keep it nicely on the ground & steady when working out. Then i tried to use it. The computer didn't work properly (instructions dont say which lead to connect to which - not helpful!) and the resistance cylinder didn't adjust to a setting that was usable. If this model is typical of non- air resistance rowers and you are used to Concept 2 type gym rowers, you will hate this one. Guess it proves why if you buy cheap, you buy twice!

I didn't buy mine from Amazon either, but I'm searching the web for how to source a replacement web strap for my York R501 and Google led me here. So, I need to add my warning to the two others I've just read here: After only a few months of using the rower, the cable-like web strap snapped - It's like that flat long stuff that is used to bind large parcels, and it acts as the cable that goes from the handle, around the pulley and to the cylinder under the rower that provides the tension you pull against. When it snape you can't use the rower (D'uhh). It's dead. And having read the other two comments on here from customers who can't get York to supply a replacement belt/strap, I'm disappointed. Oh, and the computer is indeed too small to be able to work out what it says as you are rowing, as someone else says here. This is a shame, as it was quite a good rower in terms of its action (I used to row a long time ago) - better than the Roger Black one I had, on which the web strapping ALSO broke, forcing me to buy this one. It's only the cheaper rowing machine that have this web strapping thing linked to a hydraulic cylinder to provide the resistance. The more expensive ones have a weighted flywheel or somesuch equivalent. Even so, these machines shouldn't break as easily as they do. Be warned.

So far I have been very happy with this rowing machine...
I could say the rowing bar could have been slightly higher, but its a minnor problem...
The seat could have had more pading, but this is 54.99, not 549.99...
The one thing that stopped it getting 5 stars was the computer on it....
It tells you everything you need to know but is hard to read as there is no back light and your legs get in the way of day light or lamp light!
and on mine the housing does not hold the computer securely!!
By the way a friend of mine who is a sports manager at ESSEX UNI had a look and a go on the rowing machine I had... and said he thought it was excellet for the money and I do in the whole have to agree!!
BUT!!! as I said at the beginning... The Price Is Right
