Not a truffle at all July 23, 2008 Jb Silberman (VA, USA) This supposed truffle had virtually no chocolate flavor; the dusting of dark chocolate was not evident. The filling was unlike any truffle I have ever had--more like a pasty "fudge". In addition the first ingredient is palm oil, this is a saturated fat. The second is sugar, and the third is reduced fat(why bother?)cocoa powder whey, then finally cocoa powder. I only wish I had seen the ingredients before I purchased them. The price should have alerted me, a 2.2- pound box of decent truflles made with cocoa mass, etc. couldn't possilby be made for the mount sold on amazon. Caveat emptor!
There is no accounting for taste, is there? July 16, 2008 Christopher Travers (Santa Monica, CA USA) I don't mean to be disrespectful to the other reviewers - and we are all wired a bit differently, I know, especially the taste buds - but these truffles are substandard and quite nearly inedible. You people are simply not chocolate connoisseurs or, simply put, you have never had "proper" truffles. How could ANYONE imagine that these are the best chocolates they have ever eaten? It staggers the mind. Do yourselves a favor and try some real, well-made truffles - you will be surprised. These are NOT it - even though these are made in France - that was the reason I bought them! The person for whom I purchased these candies said "these things are a triumph of quantity over quality." How true, how true. How can one champion a truffle that lists as its very first ingredient PALM OIL - followed by SUGAR and Reduced Fat Cocoa Powder and then WHEY? Palm Oil, Sugar and Whey do not, in this case, contribute to a quality product. These things taste as if a third-grader whipped them up - they are leaden, oily, and, yes, A TRIUMPH OF QUANTITY OVER QUALITY. Triste!
I'm in the minority, but... May 17, 2008 K. Varraso (Boston, MA USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I really didn't like these truffles. (ducking and running) To me, a truffle, is creamy and almost fluffy, with a little air as part of the filling in the middle, only a tiny bit firmer than chocolate ganache'. It also has a touch of sweetness, nothing overbearing, but not that mouthfeel and pucker of unsweetened bitter chocolate. I was gravely disappointed. These truffles were like miniature hockey pucks, dusted in so much cocoa powder that I dusted the front of my shirt (nothing new) when I went to eat them. I was all set to go and devour when the package arrived, but ugh. I ended up storing these in the freezer, where I'll use them in a nice brownie or other chocolate dessert. Otherwise, they'll end up getting pitched when I clean the freezer.
Get Fat and Die Happy... May 12, 2008 V. Wong (miami, florida United States) Indulge! Great chocolate at a great price. Got these as a birthday gift and they are truly memorable. Put these on your "Bucket List"
Wonderful chocolate, but... May 6, 2008 Bruce Baker (Right Behind You) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I love chocolate, LOVE IT! In all forms and types, and a long time ago I found truffles that looked and tasted just like these! From other reviews I have learned that this is the same type of truffle sold under different names. I was so happy to find the truffles I've been looking for for YEARS. However, I was stripped to nothing because of their shipping prices. I got two boxes, and the shipping was half again the cost of the item itself! Now, for a chocolate lover lusting for the truffles she had so long ago, the money was worth it. But in retrospect, I find this a cheap and tacky way to earn your money. The truffles cost a good bit, so I don't understand why would they make the shipping so darned high! And it's not even GOOD shipping, its the 3-5 day 'We'll get to it later...' shipping. And it took them 4 days to get the boxes out the door. I will not be buying my truffles from this buyer again. Or probably anything, for that matter. Edit: 5 days and they haven't shipped them yet...
