Product Description Now you can fit sweeping landscapes into a single frame with the 28mm wide-angle setting. Pull in subjects from far away to capture even subtle facial expressions with the dynamic 280mm telephoto setting. Ideal for traveling, Panasonic's DMC-TZ4 Lumix 8.1-megapixel digital camera combines a wide-ranging LEICA DC Vario-Elmar lens with a handy, compact body. The Extra Optical Zoom function also extends the zoom to as much as 15.9x, giving you even greater telephoto power. Set the TZ4 to iA mode and let the five Intelligent Auto functions team up to help prevent shooting errors. Intelligent Exposure corrects lighting differences, so images come out just the way you see them; Intelligent Scene Selector chooses the mode that best fits the situation; MEGA Optical Image Stabilization helps prevent blurring from hand-shake; Intelligent ISO Control helps prevent motion blur; and Face Detection helps produce clear portraits by optimizing the focus and exposure settings. The Intelligent big bright 2.5" LCD adjusts brightness automatically as the ambient light level changes, so images are clear, bright and easy to see. f=4.6-46mm (35mm equiv - 28-280mm) Focal Length 2.5 Diagonal Polycrystalline TFT LCD Display (230K dots) Focusing Area Normal - Wide 50cm/Tele 200cm - infinity, Macro/Intelligent AUTO / Clipboard - Wide 5cm / Max 200cm / Tele 100cm - infinity 8 - 1/2,000 sec. Excellent! October 4, 2008 Thomas C. Voltaggio (Cherry Hill, NJ) This camera is fantastic. I bought a TZ1 several years ago and really loved the small size and 10X optical zoom. It was great for vacation shooting. I decided to give it to my daughter so I could get the "same" camera with 8 Mega Pixels. There's no other point and shoot camera this small with 10x optical zoom. I recommend it completely.
Great value, wide-angle lens September 1, 2008 Jim Moore (Charlottesville, VA USA) This camera is performing very well, especially the 28mm lens. It makes all the different for interior shots of real estate.
Best little camera AND a fantastic price August 22, 2008 J. Jaczkowski This camera is what I have been waiting for. It does it all. Easy to follow instructions. Easy to follow menus on the camera. Super photos and videos . And a price that did not hurt my budget.

I've gone to Panasonic's site, downloaded the firmware update, but there are no instructions on how to do it???!!! My computer will not open the download. The camera doesn't recognize the download... what???? Fantastic camera, btw. Bought it for my in-laws...
A workhorse and a great buy! July 26, 2008 Ha K Hwang (Atlanta, GA) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
For those of us interested in semi compact cameras with wide angle lens and big zooms, this camera is a dream come true! It came down to either Canon SX100 or Panasonic DMC-TZ4 for me, as I was unimpressed by the price and lack of zoom on the best of ultra compact cameras: Canon SD770/790/870. As far as SX100 vs TZ4 goes: SX100 makes a little better quality pictures, has full manual controls, and has better noise reduction processor. It suffers from traumatic flash recycle time (10 sec +). TZ4 has wide angle lens, compactness, superior iA mode (auto mode), much better LCD, simpler controls, capability to zoom during movies, 16:9 movie mode, and a world class Leica lens. It suffers from the aggressive, inferior Venus IV noise reduction processor. Be sure to download the latest firmware update (ver 1.2) from Panasonic--it addresses the autofocus issue at the long end. In the end, the wide angle capability and the fact that TZ4 lens (not the processor) is the best in compact cameras tipped me over to TZ4, and I am very happy! I'd highly recommend TZ4.
