    Editorial Reviews:

    Product Description
Connect your appliances into the Kill A Watt, and assess how efficient they are. A large LCD display counts consumption by the Kilowatt-hour just like utility companies. You can figure out your electrical expenses by the hour, day, week, month, even an entire year. Monitor the quality of your power by displaying Voltage, Line Frequency, and Power Factor

5 out of 5 stars Perfect when you are curious.   September 7, 2008
    z-wave Guy (USA)
Does a great job, I did not checked the accuracy with another multimeter but I suppose this one is accurate. I was able to check each device consumption in my house and see how much power is used on a long run... If you are curious like me, that's the perfect tools.

4 out of 5 stars Useful Too - Idea for upgrade though   September 7, 2008

Very good tool for assessing appliance energy utilization. You can see current usage real-time. For freezers which cycle on and off, you can measure consumption over a day or week or any length of time.

I'd like to see either an illuminated readout or the ability to unplug and have the readings remain visable. It is tough to see usage when in a dark place.

5 out of 5 stars Valuable tool for energy calculations...   September 6, 2008

Works very well and provided all necessary information for analysis of power quality and quantity. Highly recommend.

4 out of 5 stars I did not know that used 20 watts when it is off.   September 5, 2008
Jeffrey P. Silverstone (Takoma Park, MD USA)
There is a CD player in our basement that my wife uses sometimes. This told me that even when it is "off" it uses 20watts. A power strip solves the problem, but unit allowed me to conduct an inventory of my house looking to deploy these. Use it with a three/two prong adaptor and a short extension cord, so you can test hard to see plugs and insert it in two prong extension cords.

Unlike the ammeter which clamps around a cord, you have to turn things off and unplug things to test them. Also this does not measure smaller than 1 watt, so you wont get much results trying to test those power bricks when the are not doing anything, but you can verify that there are not surprises.

5 out of 5 stars Great Device, Delivers As Promised   September 4, 2008
    Trojan Jon (Los Angeles, CA)
Very pleased. Works exactly as I expected/desired. The negatives I read about prior to using the product seem very overdone. Do yourself a favor, like I did, and attach a 10" pigtail to the device (available at most retailers). With this addon, you won't have any problem plugging the device into any standard outlet, even if the other plug in the outlet is being used. My pigtail lights up, so it also confirms a good connection. Easier to manipulate the device and read the display. Very easy to read display, disregard commenters that state otherwise. In the dark, use a flashlight to read the digits, if necessary. I gathered some very interesting data, such as a string of lights I have up around my patio that I've always been curious what they're consuming, given that the box they came in gave no indication of the strand total or the individual bulbs. Turns out the 100+ lights use 38 watts under full load. Pleasantly surprised on that one. My girlfriend's cell phone charger uses 0 watts when it's not charging, even though a tiny LED shines, indicating it's plugged in. I've had a lot of fun with the device and I'm sure it will prove to be very useful in the coming months/years.
