isolation outdoors product, not for hurricane September 16, 2008 Chen Sun (Houston, TX United States) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have model LL01 purchased sometimes in 2005 or 6. First use of this was in Hurricane Ike in 2008, during total blackout. Very disappointed. The radio was grossly inadequate. I could hear better with my high-quality pocket radio. The siren is so weak--better to shout. The light was amusing. It's extremely bright LED, as long as it has enough power. However, one look into this destroys one's night vision. Additionaly, takes a lot of constant cranking to retain good lighting. There are some good uses of this light, and I found one of these. Suppose one wants a light to hang on a tree to act as a beacon for the campground. Surprisingly, this light will emit light for a long period of time, and in pitch darkness, with good night vision, one can see this from some distance (I suspect). Problem is, it doesn't have a hanger to hang onto a tree for this purpose. Also, using its low light setting, this light can last nearly all night. This unit served comparably to a hallway night light for me during the hurricane. Also, I imagine, if you're being rescued in the dark, the other light settings can be useful.
Excellent camping accessory August 17, 2008 R. Sammet (MiddleofNoWhere, Ohio) This light is very bright and I love the fact that it winds up to charge, it saves on batteries. The radio function isn't too clear sounding but I bought the lamp to use as a light so it works well for me.
works well August 16, 2008 Martin J. Maggiora I bought this as it always seems that the kids leave the electric lantern on and I would always have to replace the batteries on every trip. Now the kids just have to crank it up and it will last about 45 mins. Now they have to work for ther lighting. I may even buy another one just to have for emergency.
Good but LED lights make damages on my eyes July 26, 2008 MC Life+Gear Lifelight is great one. It works by Crank or AAA x 3. Accessory are come with Audio input and Mobile phone charger. The mobile charger is for Nokia models. Radio function is pretty good, and mp3 speaker is good too. Siren is not that loud enough. Also in Life+Gear homepage's manual, NightLight is function as repelling mosquito, I'm curious about that. Directional compass is good idea. What's not good? LED is too bright. When I look at the lamp, they hurt my eyes. I hope there's some kind cover sheet inside so that my eyes are protected. Also LED lights are not bright enough for making my room bright. I hope there's mirror inside so that they reflect each other to make my room bright enough. In addition, it is not waterproof. NO GOOD!! Note that they make Caution "Be sure to wind up minimum one minute for each re-charge."
The best in an emerncey!! July 17, 2008 Katt A Shopper (VA) I ordered two of these when Amazon had them on special and it had good reviews. I had to use these the very next day. A severe storm hit first knocking out the power. The light on this thing is amazing. It has two different settings to choose from. After awhile of the power not coming back, it's great that the lamp gives you the option of using a battery which I put in and then for the rest of the night till 1 in the am we where under a tornado watch, and I was able to keep the weather channel on to keep informed of all the changes. I am hoping to buy more and hand them out to friends and family. Also the radio has really good reception. I live in an area with so many trees I rarely can get a cell line. I can see using these for camping they are small, light and some what narrow and would hang easily on a branch without breaking it.
